Reimu and Yukari, my OTP.
Lately, I've found myself drawn to this pairing more than usual. Looking through some pictures of the two together has stirred feelings deep in my heart, feelings I have only ever felt a handful of times before. Feelings that tell me this pairing is something very special, almost magical, like the bond (of love, or friendship, call it what you will) these two share is the kind that only comes around once every thousand years. Looking at the two them very nearly brings tears to my eyes, firstly because they look so beautiful together, so made for each other, and secondly because I know I will never, ever experience the kind of relationship they have.

It seems to me that there is no real submissive or dominant person in this relationship, no silly 'dere' traits, nor are there 'gender roles' or anything else of the sort present to bog things down and condemn this pairing to being 'just another face in the crowd', so to speak. Each person is free to be the individual they are without incurring displeasure from the other.

On the outside, Reimu may not seem the most caring and loving of people, but Yukari knows better, she knows the real Reimu, and loves her simply for who she is and wouldn't dream of it any other way. Likewise, Reimu knows Yukari isn't all mischief & pranks all the time, even though when Yukari does mess around, Reimu takes it all in her stride, for she knows Yukari means well, and would never do anything to hurt Reimu, the one she values above all else, in any way.
And at the end of the day, who else do they have but each other on the long, lonely road they travel as the guardians of Gensokyo? Someday, when Marisa passes from this world, Yuyuko finally fades away for good, and Ran & Chen are returned from whence they came, they will be alone on their mission, endlessly toiling to maintain the Border, save for each other.

On the outside, Reimu may seem cold, stoic, distant, uncaring and detached from the world around her, only interested in her own well being, but once in a blue moon, when that hard exterior comes crumbling down, when the pressures of living life as such a person and the weight of her burden as the Hakurei Shrine Maiden, protector of Gensokyo, thrust alone into a hostile world for the sole purpose of keeping it safe, becomes too much to bear, Yukari is there for her. When all the emotions Reimu has built up inside of her come out in a torrent of tears, Yukari, the Mother Of Gensokyo, is there with a shoulder to cry on, ready to hold the daughter of Hakurei tight, ease her troubled mind and wash all her pain away.

Now, what about you, Anonymous? Do you have someone to lean on when times get tough? A shoulder to cry on when the weight of the world crushes down and life seemingly abandons you? Someone to pull you back from the brink of despair, someone to save you when an overwhelming force of emotion threatens to consume you?
