They're a good group that look for each other in their own ways
Waggy is adorable & impressionable, enhancing the mood when she's around and always listening to her friends.
Kagerou is a calm, good girl who doesnt seek conflict either so it's nice that she has other people to share this with, rather than be lost in her thoughts and her werewolf instincts in the Bamboo Forest
Bnaki is a bit jaded about her chances as a Youkai to scare others without trouble, but she has the most contact with the village so she gets to bring outsider stories to Waggy & Kagerou, and the two of them being so nice is good for her

When there are more Gods and other powerful beings in Gensokyo than you can shake a stick at, the average youkai have no choice but to serve under them, as most do, or to bravely band together in defiance of the hierarchy.
The Grassroots youkai are their own masters.

The characters in Who's Who are grouped by game and stage appearance. Waka, Kage and Seki are lumped into one article because they share a theme (affected by the mallet) and impact on the plot (largely innocent bystanders). The article itself says nothing about the members of the KNYN. It merely states that weak youkai constitute its ranks. Weak youkai like those three. Who are weak, comparatively. It doesn't even say any of them are members. We do, however, know that Waka and Kage are members from other sources. Which can't be said of Banki.

Please play DDC or at least read its dialogue and profiles before you try to push your headcanon.

I just wish the canon is more explicit. I want a clear statement "Sekibanki is/has become part of the Grassroot Youkai Network" along with what she does or how she interact with the Kage and Waka in canon, which none has been shown so far. Until then if all it currently has is vague implications I rather keep things in the air. People must have thought "Aya and Momiji are both tengus they must have cooperative relationship or more" until the dialogues between them actually dropped.

The hair is ultra pattable and smooth despite not being silky as she bathes often and makes sure each and every bonky head is cleaned

"How did it come to this?" I think as my arms and legs scream in pain. I close my eyes as I try to recall the chain of events that landed me here.
The nights out drinking with Banki had been a great way to gather info and experience on all sorts of youkai related things as well as girls in general. That she thought me as more than a friend came as a great surprise, she always acted a bit aprehensive during boozing.
Kagerou had been of great help in teaching how to fend for myself, and it was indeed nice to get out of the confines of the village once in a while. But it did hurt a little to hear that she still thought I couldn't take care of myself, had those days of training truly not improved me at all?
And none of this wouldn't have been possible without Waggy. I still remember the first time we met, she had saved me from that fairy who threatened to freeze me. Her way of "saving" me had included grabbing my legs as I neared the lake and swimming as far and as fast as she could. So it too a bit of time and explaining that she was not going to eat me before I opened up a little and had told of her about my hunt for valuable rocks.
Ever her friendly self she had volunteered to help me find what I needed, but I suspect she had just wanted someone to look at her rather sizable rock collection.
She had then gradually introduced me to the other two and things had been calm and friendly.
Until now that is, as Kagerous strong grip shakes me from my thoughts I knew this misunderstanding had to be cleared soon.
As I start to speak up all three of them snap to me and speak over eachother.
"It's me right?"
They all shout in unison.
I sigh, and start again
"Can we calm down a bit, I think there is a big misunderstanding here"
"But you said you might not be able to come over as much so you clearly mean you are going to stay in the village with me"
Protests Banki
"You said this was about someone special so clearly you have been charmed by my shining scales and wish to move in with me"
Waggy confidently adds
"We already promised to meet the day after tomorrow so you plan on moving to the bamboo forest with me"
Kagerou declares
"No, it's not any of those and before you tear me apart please let me explain"
All three of them open and close their mouths, then nod one by one as they let go of my aching limbs.
"First of all, I'll have sort of a part time job so I can't visit as often. Even in the village"
I pointedly say to Banki
"And while our training will continue I did say it will not be every other day anymore but weekly"
I remind Kagerou
"Lastly, your scales are absolutely gorgeus Waggy-chan, but it's another that has me smitten"
I finish with a slight blush creeping onto my cheeks.
In that moment all bickering is forgotten and the three of them look at me with eyes hungry for information.
"Who is it?"
Waggy asks directly
"I knew it was that barmaid you made eyes at!"
Banki declares
"Have you been talking with the rabbits?"
Kagerou demands
"Not telling, no and definetly no. You'll just spread weird rumors if I tell you who."
I quickly follow up before any more questions are thrown at me
"I'm already late since I came out of my way to tell all of you. So I really need to run, we'll continue this tomor-"
I'm cut off as something grey hits me square in the face with a wet slap
"URAMESHYAA! Haha, got you good!"
The loud yell surprises me more than the physical assault did.
As I scramble to turn around I hear a familiar voice.
"I knew you'd be here, it's not good to be late on your first day ya'know?"
While we were distracted my new boss had crept up from behind.
"But you did just give me a good meal so I'll forgive it just this once."
The three eyed youkai continued with a satisfied grin.
"Kogasa, what a surprise."
I reply, trying to regain my composure.
"I'm sorry for being late, there was a small emergency but it's over now. We can head back to your forge"
I begin trying to usher Kogasa away before the trio has time to recover and ask annoying pointed questions.
"Are you sure, seemed like you were in the middle of an important conversation"
Kogasa replies with a smile, turning to look at the trio.
"Nothing of the sort, you are free to borrow him as much as you'd like"
Waggy replies, smiling from fin to fin while Kagerou and Banki furiously whisper to each other.
"That's good then, shall we head off?"
Kogasa replies as she turns and starts walking off without waiting for a reply.
As I begin following her I give a quick glance behind me, where I can see the trio rapidly talking to each other while glancing our way ever so often.
I give a deep sigh and resign myself to the rumors and questions I'll no doubt face in the coming days.
Then a thought occurs to me.
"Kogasa, what did you mean you knew I would be here?"
I voice my concern.
"Of course I would know where my junior spends his free time, isn't that just common sense?"
She replies, keeping all three of her eyes facing forward
"I guess so"
I quietly agree.

The underwater room was a mess, artifacts, gemstones and knick-nacks lay haphazardly around the room.
Wakasagihime was dashing around her treasury in a frantic panic talking to herself
"Where could it be, I can't go without it."
As another gemstone fell discarded to the sea floor she swam to the top of the room.
"Of course, how could I forget."
As she dug a small box from a hidden alcove and popped it open she let out a deep sigh.
"There you are, oh Kagerou is absolutely going to love you!"
With the treasure safely in her hands the mermaid princess makes a mad dash out of her home, leaving it looking like a school of sharks had passed through it.

Up top a lonely werewolf is sitting with her head resting in her hands.
"Where could she be, there is no way she would miss today of all days"
It was the monthly outing with Waggy-chan and she was late, Kagerou had started to grow worried.
Closing her eyes she tried not to imagine what could have happened to her.
"Sometimes she just gets distracted, it's fine... I'm sure"
As if on que with a big splash Wakasagihime bursts out of the lake, landing half on land with a big smile on her face and holding her hands out to the werewolf.
"Kagerou-chan! I hope I didn't keep you waiting"
With a jolt Kagerou jumps up and after a moment grasps down at the princesses hands
"Of course you did, what were you doing this time? Did you get lost sorting out the trash from the mansion again?"
"No, they don't let me swim around there anymore. I was actually looking for this!"
She pushes the little gemstone to Kagerous hand.
"Isn't it pretty? The blue shade truly shines in the sunlight!"
Opening her hands Kagerou finds herself holding a blue gemstone with a thin necklace attacked to it.
Holding it up so the light catches the stone, it shines brightly showing its almost flawless surface.
"It really is, I guess it makes sense to dress up for today"
Accepting the reason for the princess lateness Kagerou hands the gemstone back.
"Of course, I need to keep up appearances after all"
Taking the gemstone back Wakasagihime ties it around her neck and then holds her hands out once more
"Shall we go then?"
With a practiced ease Kagerou takes her hands and lifts her up on her shoulders and starts walking towards the wooden barrel located a little ways behind her.
Waggy happily examines her gemstone as she is carried over and dumped into the barrel which is filled with water that overflows as she enters.
"There we go, where shall her highness visit today then?"
Kagerou asks with a mocking bow as she takes her place behind the barrel.
"I was thinking of paying a visit to my good friend Kagerou-chan today, in the bamboo forest"
Waggy replies with a sly smile.
"As she whisesh"
And with that, Kagerou begins to push the barrel. With the wheels installed at the bottom it begins to roll relatively easily, even with all the weight from the water and the princess inside it.

The trip to the bamboo forest is calm so both it's no surprise when both of them get engrossed in talking and realize a little too late, they are lost in the bamboo forest.
"I'm sure we passed that rock twice already!"
Shouts the princess of the barrel as she peeks her head out.
"I'm sure we did, I think we are a bit more than lost at this point."
Kagerou sighs, the heavy barrel starting to take its toll on her after such a long time of walking.
"Maybe we should stop for a while and ask for help?"
"From who, the only other residents of the bamboo forest are the rabbits and the occasional fairies. And I'v never seen anyone but the rabbits leave the mansion. "
"Well, how bout her?"
Following the pointing finger of her friend Kagerou notices a human sitting on a rock in the distance.
"They are likely just as lost as we are, but not like we have much to loose at this point"
Heading over Wakasagihime shouts a greeting at the figure.
"Hello! How do you do, we would like to ask for directions."
The human had been watching them approach for a little while now, the barrel not being exactly stealthy.
"Hello there, you sure aren't what I was expecting. When I noticed someone was lost in the bamboos I was sure it was another human"
The human stands up and starts walking towards them
"Sure I can give you two directions, but how did you get lost in your own backyard?"
Pointing at Kagerou the human raises an eyebrow
"It's not my fault, it's this damn magical barrier. I usually keep out of this area completely!"
Kagerou snaps back, trying to hide the blush on her cheeks.
"Oh thank you very much! I really should give you a reward, would this gem do?"
Waggy turns around a couple times looking for a suitable offering and settles on the gem hanging from her neck.
"no no, I could never. This is kinda like a hobby for me, and besides I could not break such a nice matching set of jewels apart."
With slight confusion Wakasagihime looks back at her hand seeing only one gem.
"But I only have one of these, what do you mean?"
"Isn't it a pair for the red ruby on her brooch?"
With that both Kagerou and Wakasagihime turn to look at the jewel hanging from her hood
"Oh! It is, isn't! Hehe, we watch Kagerou-chan!"
Like a bunch of school girls both of them start swooning over their gems and comparing them, while Mokou leads them out of the forest in relative silence.
"And here you go, try not to wander aimlessly in the bamboo forest again"
"Thank you so very much Mokou-chan, I hope we can visit your some other day!"
"I'm sorry for the trouble, I didn't mean to make you push her barrel as well"
"It's fine, now get going it's starting to get late"
With a wave they part ways and Kagerou brings Waggy back to her lake with no further adventures.

When they reach the lake, both of them are so exhausted they promise to do this again in a week as usual and wish each other a good night as they part ways.
Waggy swims back to her home, and finds it in the same state as she left it.
An issue for tomorrow, she is far too tired to start setting up her collection again.
For now she finds the most visible spot in her cave and displays her newest greatest treasure so she can always look at it, to remember this day and her dear friend.

I'm sorry, I just wanted to write something in honor of the lost fish thread.

Shooting Kagerou in the spine as she tries to get away and then skinning Kagerou alive with a bowie knife for her fur pelt and making her into a carpet, a hat and a fancy belt!

Catching Wakasagihime with a net and depriving her of water until she dries out and then slicing her into bits and serving her with a side of hush puppies and tartar sauce after cooking her over a fire!

Locking all of Sekibanki's heads into a trunk and throwing it away into the ocean, cursing her with an eternal blindness and the despair of never being able to see where she's making her body go!
