In the VN, the doll alone prevents Wata/Mea from happening again in Mina because it completely erases any femininity self-esteem issues from Mion. That's why she was still the confident, tomboy Mion in Tsumi when she has to wear a degrading, skimpy costume as part of a punishment game, because the doll incident alone is what makes or breaks her confidence as a woman, so giving her the doll should only boost her already-existing confidence, not the other way around. The only reason it's happening in this manga is because Tomato forced the issue anyways, and that's just frustrating. It just damages Mion and the VN when something established gets ignored like that for the sake of a rehash, no different from a Hollywood producer forcing a sequel without caring that it may damage the original in some way.

Eh, we don't really get Mion's point of view. She can still have them just never show them since there's nothing pushing her in that direction.

That's also different because when she's wearing punishment game costumes, she's still acting as "Mion". The Angel Mort incident in Wata hits different because she has to act as the more feminine Shion and then Keiichi praises that side of her.

The doll didn't mean shit in the original story either, it was just a means for Mion to be unable to avoid the fact that K1 didn't see her as girly.
K1 giving her the doll means that he's more considerate of her feelings, but it doesn't really fix any of her insecurities considering she's always going to be a nervous mess around him.

As the club leader/during club games they don't really have to face any of that stuff, so Mion can cut loose and mess around with K1.
The doll basically put them in a position where that wasn't there, and K1 directly said what Mion didn't want to hear with no club game smokescreen for her to use.
It's why after Shion shows up and blows up Mion's scheme, the club kids just try to forget what happened between K1 and Mion to go back to normal.

Yeah, this is fine. People are too damn used to the Tomboy face Mion puts on. The whole reason she’s lacks a spine throughout most of Higurashi is because during her formation years she used to be Shion the unwanted twin who shouldn’t even exist. Her self confidence is absolute crap and it gets her killed so many times through OG Higurashi. As Rena tried to explain to K1 in Wata deep down she’s really just a girly girl trying to act how she expects Oryou and the rest of the Sonozaki’s and people around her expect a Yakuza’s daughter to act. While the now Shion actually Mion is the real thing. The ironic thing is they’re both jealous of what the other has. Glad Tomato finally wrote the subtext that had always been there into canon like we knew it was.

It's an awkward situation, they're jealous of what the other has but at the same time feel guilty over the difficult position the switch put the other through.
We only really saw it from Shion's perspective but Mion is bad at hiding things so Shion can usually read her like a book. And some of the stuff she outright says, like how bad she feels for what happened to Shion.

The only issue I had with the manga chapter it looks like Mion ran into Keiichi by accident in Angel Mort instead of deliberately going there to do the Shion charade since it was her first day working there in the OG story and she was doing it in the first place to start over. But it’s a pretty minor gripe considering how good the rest of the chapter was.

I guess either she started that with the intent of learning to act more girly or would find a way to get K1 to the restaurant. Could've been a genuine accident and she continued doing it because it was working.

I don’t think it was in the OG story. She could have saw or heard him mention it at school. Then got the idea. It also happens directly after telling Rena she wanted to start over as a different person on the phone with K1. Which is why she approaches him during the diner. She also never really does the Angel Mort job in any other arc.

I think Shion’s just teasing her to push Mion to get over her insecurities without using her name. Satoko probably injects Mion when she leaves Keiichi alone with Takano and Shion. She then mentions something about Satoshi to redirect Shion to want to enter the shrine to find someout some information which kicks starts Mion to freak out when Oryou finds out about Shion and Keiichi going into the shrine and wants to punish them. HS makes her think Shion was trying to demon him away and or her having memory leaks of Meakashi.

I don't think Oni really matters one way or another. You can have Shion appearing, meeting the group, leaving and nothing relevant would change. Heck, you can do that in the console ports of Higurashi.

Regarding the fragments only changing due to Satoko's injections, that's plainly wrong. It was a weird implication in the Gou anime, with her early loops seemingly being identical, but Meguri's early loops showed variation and we outright had Eua's line about some worlds being worse than Satoko's original one. Still, yeah, the memory leaks should be valid.

Both issues are related to dealing with memory leaks, I don't see why it's unreasonable to expect explanations regarding why we'd see the same original arcs if said memory leaks should prevent them from repeating the same way prior to the injection. Like I've said, I don't think anyone even thought about the issue of Shion's first meeting with Keiichi being tied to memory leaks. They're just going with it depending on the fragment without putting more thought into it, yes. This is just a conclusion you've arrived at interpreting the original work. I think this is different from not addressing Shion's memory leaks themselves though. I do think that will be touched upon by the manga considering the set up we've seen and if it doesn't that will be a noticeable flaw.

And, yes original arcs would have been better, but that wasn't R07's outline. As far as Meguri goes, I think as long as the developments we're getting in these arcs have an actual pay off later, it can avoid the anime's issue of making all this feel irrelevant.

Those are two different situations though. The first one is again one of the playful teasing scenes where they're with the whole gang. The other one is the sisters talking privately where Mion is the polar opposite of how she is in the aforementioned situations, and she can see that Shion is getting serious about Satoshi. That's why Mion never acts like in your screenshot towards Rena, and the only time she thinks Rena has gotten the advantage over her she inmediately breaks down and needs consolation because she has given up. She doesn't feel indebted to Rena, but she does towards Shion. Still, I already said it too - Shion doesn't need to avoid Satoko for the entire month, just Keiichi. She could easily meet her outside of school hours. Either way, next couple of chapters should show whether the manga will deal with Shion's bond with Satoko in this scenario or just cowardly avoid it all.

Aside from maybe this promised new final arc and ending, I think the Meguri name change has been mostly about marketing since the association with Sotsu became a negative point. Many of these changes were planned from the start, like Rika complaining about having been killed in Onidamashi pointing against her suicide, or all girls going with Mion and Satoko when she called them for tea after the game competition, so there was no space for an injection there in manga Watadamashi.

Like I said it depends on how things turn out by the end and whether anything is done with this stuff. We just Rena having new memory leaks (although they didn't lead anywhere) and Rena's father beating her for example.

I mean, that's the point. That didn't happen in Watanagashi, but happened in Watadamashi, suggesting Rika's mind was actually worse in these new loops than during the original ones. Meguri even showed post-Matsuri Rika with a characterization very close to the one she had by the end of that arc which just made that even more unlikely. But now we see she already has been through a bunch of other worlds by the time of Watadamashi and outright says she is almost losing it. Although she's hiding it from her friends and just putting on a smiling face, which is why she seemed normal until she wasn't in the Damashi arcs. You know, setting up a whole new context behind her witch side scene, something an Answer Arc should be doing.

All of these are Gou arc changes for the remix point that I mentioned though. Rika killing herself instead of being killed makes no difference because in both the manga and anime she said that she knows there's an enemy out to get her. Manga Rika is still doing the same tricks anime Rika did like telling Keiichi to give Mion the doll.

That was after Keiichi met Shion and Mion at the same time though, which is a whole different kind of embarrassing situation and happens after the hypothetical scenario Keiichi came up with. Mion told Shion that she was worried about Rena being way girlier than her after all and that Keiichi would go for her instead, which doesn't sound like something she'd think if Rena had helped her like Keiichi assumed.
