Fumos have a neutral pose, they're accessible, they're wholesome, but they're human enough that you can easily suspend your disbelief and say that these Fumos are doing this thing, which itself is a harmlessly silly concept.

Most of these things can't really be said about other personified merchandise like like figurines or dakimakuras. You can't very comfortably take figurines to shop for groceries or hold a daki in your pocket or bag, but with Fumo, you can! You might even get nice comments on your Fumo. They're just little plushies, after all, and that's genuinely the case.

Everyone is okay with seeing a plush, and anyone can see the absurd humor of taking a picture of a plushie working on a car engine or visiting the Grand Canyon. It makes the images work on multiple levels, because it's cute and just very slightly humorous while also avoiding the narcissistic or creepy connotations that can be associated with posting selfies, shots of other people, or shots of other personified merchandise. It's like how cat pictures used to be the standard for anonymous Internet photography back in the day, as cats are also neutral, accessible, wholesome, and personified. Therefore, a Fumo photo is functionally just another form of cat picture, just with more creative flexibility for the photographer since Fumos aren't typically as moody as cats.

Hello /fumo/, I come to you with a proposition or "prospect" of sorts.
For the last year or so I haven't had much spare time to protograph or even acknowledge the existence of my softs, and soon-to-be-true life events will result in roughly 90% of my fumoly getting boxed and put into indefinite wardrobe storage. I'm mostly here to gauge if anyone would be interested in providing a new home for most of my softs.
I wouldn't ask for much in terms of payment, since they're pretty old (and probably dusty) at this point, albeit well taken care of. As far as I know none of them have any major structural damages, nor do they have any stains or smells (outside of that specific "storage" smell). I haven't really put much thought into shipping or the logistics side of things yet, but I live in Europe if that matters (some anons will probably know the country based on pic related).

I'll provide a comprehensive pic of the softs I'm willing to part with in the coming days If I can, and if I decide to go through with this.
In the meantime, have a pic of an engineering student patchy. It's nice to see that these threads are still up.

Is powdered laundry detergent and a toothbrush and cold water a good way to clean fumos? My Ran needs cleaning.

well for felt, you'll want to just water down some VERY soft liquid detergent, stuff made for delicates. It's a very sheer, soft material usually, so it can be kind of delicate. Not to mention a lot of the techniques used to make these cute lil demons.

Your toothbrush can be used for the whole thing, but it's likely uneccesary. Use that on the tougher to clean areas. Otherwise you can hand wash most of the fabric.

If there is a stain you should use oxyclean stainbusters to get it out, just follow the directions on the tube. You can pair it with the toothbrush if you want, either way I've found oxycleans stain line to be pretty good on even the most delicate of fabrics.

After you do that you can rinse out the areas you are cleaning lightly without actually submerging her in water. Then you're done.

Make sure to leave her somewhere warm(but not hot) and dry, preferably with a fan circulating the air nearby. You don't want her to get musty.

And an important note, ALWAYS use COLD water, like you said before. Hot water always runs a risk of melting glue inside the stitching or shrinking one of the various fabrics used to manufacture any kind of fabric doll.

I've never actually owned a fumo until recently, but I have done a lot of laundry and fabric doll maintenence. This is just my personal experience, but I hope it helps!

My fumo didn't like sitting up all the way, so i made a very soft velcro stand for her.

It's a layer of rubber for grip, a metal military challenge coin I don't care to keep anymore for weight (don't worry it's not valuable kek.)

And then on top a triple layer of adhesive velcro which increases surface area on her bottom side.

I forgot to mention, the velcro in question is VERY soft on material. It's why I had to increase surface area. It does not have a lot of grip, but in turn doesn't cause any damage to fabric it's clung to.

yeah no, in my experience, soaking just ends up making a massive mess and risks creating nasty bacteria INSIDE the stuffed doll, any doll. And once it's in there, it's nearly impossible to get out. It's best to clean the surface by hand, then rinse under cold water, strain anything you can lightly, and do the fan warm room thing I mentioned before.

I disagree, I take my fumo everywhere and she gets dirty frequently and i wash her when I take a shower, using shampoo soap and squeeze all that out then left her by the fan overnight and she is practically brand new. That's up to you, I'm just talking from a perspective of doing doll maintenence for years. You can wash it however you want, as long as you get it dry properly it's really up to you. Though I will say submerging and showering are very different.

Using the fan is absolutely needed though I agree, it helps to wick out ANY moisture inside. So good move on your part.

Personally I paid good money for mine, and I refuse to compromise any of the stitching or the glue over the long run using certain soaps and hot water.

It depends on weight and on volume weight (which is a fictional weight calculated depending on the three sizes of the box), whichever is larger is counted as the parcel's weight and determines the shipping cost. Fumos are very light so their volume weight is what counts, and it's around half a kilo if you go by DHL and FedEx's formula.
The shipping cost calculator you can find on fromjapan and zenmarket's websites can give you a decent idea.
