We all know ZUN only makes one Touhou a game per year, and it probably only takes him 2-3 months to make it. What does he do in the other 9 months? Even if he had a normal 40-hour per week job, he still has a lot of freetime. Does ZUN have any grasp of how big the Touhou fandom has become on the Internet?

If you just noticed with that video that all the songs are based off of two or three musical concepts...

Composers do that all the time. It's normal for one theme to get stuck in a composer's head, and then he writes a bunch of songs based on it. You'll see those in any suite or even in most musicals.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe ZUN doesn't have a music degree, theory or otherwise, so it would be asking too much of him to ask that each song he makes be completely different and not reuse themes where he thinks they'll fit (notice that Tewi's theme in PoFV is largely a remix of Reisen's theme). I'm impressed enough that he comes up with themes that fit the situation/character as well as he does.

Further, there are only so many melodies that don't sound like utter shit; if you're prolific, eventually you'll come up with something that sounds like someone else. Even if that weren't the case, it's accepted in composition to take a few bars from someone's music or in some cases even a single melody line, and then expand on them and rearrange them. Especially if they're older composers - they're public domain, and we're supposed to write things in their styles while learning to write our own stuff.

In short? It's not stealing to use short melodies from other composers, any more than yue in mahou sensei negima is stealing from touhou.

You need a certain amount of power to back it up. Is it mild surprise, like "Oh, it was just a little cloudy earlier, I didn't think it would rain."? Or is it heart attack surprise like "HOLY SHIT WE'RE GETTING INVADED BY ALIENS!! WHY DO THEY ALL LOOK LIKE BUNNY GIRLS!? AND OH GOD THEY'RE SHOOTING EYE LAZERS!"?

If it's the former, you're not going to beat anyone. If it's the latter, you might be able to do some serious damage. I'd imagine, however, that kogasa isn't powerful enough to give the latter kind of surprise to the higher level touhous simply because they're mostly immortals who aren't surprised by much, or in Okuu's case is just likely to go into "INTRUDER DETECTED" mode.
