Well, some of its traditional cultural traits are fascinating of course. Then there's the whole megalopolis appeal of an area such as Tokyo, which to someone who has never lived somewhere with more than tens of thousands of people is quite strong. I'm also interested in linguistics, and Japanese is quite unique I think.
