>How to play?
Run anchor.exe, japanese locale is advised so you don't run into untranslated text.
If you wish to manually update, delete old files aside the sav folder to avoid any bugs.

You could try your hand at translating dialogue, there's guides currently in TW folder(in #Translation) on what to do, since I mostly played TW, not sure if it that folder exists in other games.
Another guide from threads is:
1) Download an IDE. VS Code, for example.
1a) If using VS Code, install the EraBasic addon
2) Select UTF8 encoding
3) Open the ERB files and edit them
That way you can now edit files without much trouble.
The path for files to edit is usually the ERB folder:
K: ERB/口上
TW: ERB\口上・メッセージ関連\個人口上
You can also report bugs or typos when you see them.
If you'd like to either edit or add your own portraits for 2hus, the files are located within the resource folder as webps also known as the worst filetype known to man.

Java runs in webservers dealing with millions of requests a second and in microdevices dealing with retarded machine shit. It's a part of it, but not exactly. Every time a function is declared, it will allocate some memory to create several full-sized arrays (the basic built-in ones like LOCAL/LOCALS, ARG/ARGS). A text-based weg is the difference between CoC1 & 2. CoC1 has very small sprites in the corner of the screen to use as visual aids, gives a vague idea of what the player talks to. The rest of the actual game takes place in the text box.
CoC2? 1/4 of the screen is devoted to full portraits of whatever you're talking to. What's more, the portrait will change depending on whether sex is happening or not. CoC2 has this option to choose different portraits by different artists for the character you're talking to. So if you like how artist y drew someone and hate artist x but only artist x drew a sex portrait, you're switched from artist y to x for the sake of keeping a pretty picture on screen.
TL;DR - Sometimes there are text-based wegs but the vast majority/popular ones people rip off are full of pretty pictures emulating CoC2 or, dare I say it, Summertime Saga.

Typically you just throw your sav folder into the new build and then run the Update function. 99% of the time that works fine.

If your current build is extremely ancient I suppose copying your save over might cause problems even after running Update. In which case my recommendation would still be to switch over to the latest build, just start a new game and just cheat back all your skill experience (as well as favor/reliability on your main waifus). The in-game cheat character editor is easy to use, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to edit your character and your waifus, unless you've romanced half of Gensokyo. Then after that you just need to re-do introduction events and first kiss/confession events (I see this as an absolute win) with your waifus and you'll be right back where you are in your current game.

Mob characters have some strange logic and kludges to get them to work. Basically the way that the game engine saves them means that a lot of their stats will be permanently frozen after the first day. This includes their fertility cycle, so it will never advance. Also, it's impossible to impregnate a mob after the first day, so be sure to knock 'em up when you first meet them if that's your goal.
