Well, if you want a knife that will go with you to your grave, a really practical tool, here`s an advice: DON`T BUY AN OTF. Seriously. OTFs are good only for quick-draw situations where you have toarm yourself as quickly as possible. Leave the actual work to folders and fixeds. OTFs are not made to receive much strain. My benchmade can cut alluminum cans, wood, etc, but I seriously wouldn`t try that with an OTF. Even with a high-quality Microtech one.

Well, I don't tend to use my knife for cutting aluminum cans, as it can suffice for most normal situations where a cutting edge is needed.

If you want a knife you're going to use for survival/heavy utility, that's going to be different from one you'd carry for utility in addition to personal defense. I wouldn't want to use a folding knife for survival situations. Too much trouble to keep the mechanism working in prolonged use. You'd be better off with a fixed blade.
