In the first chapter of FGO Mashu says that Galahad was a chaldea servant chosen to go on the mission that had lost his master in the explosion Lev made happen and she and him fused to save each others lives, Romani then proceeds to be surprised.
In episode 0 (written by Nasu) of the babylonia anime, which originally aired as a new years special way ahead of the actual anime, Mashu has been fused with Galahad for years and Chaldea has been running combat experiments with her, which Romani was present for. In the game Romani even brings up that Chaldea tried creating demi-servants already and that "it finally worked this time". This episode was also the first actual apperance of Marisbury, likely to be main villain of FGO's lostbelt arc, and shows Galahad's hatred for him through a literal murder attempt. He has had no actual appearences in the game and doesn't even have a sprite.

I love HF. It's close to UBW in quality -- not by a whole lot, but close. It's still quite messy though and I found the romance to be quite bad. Sakura is okay as a character but strip her of her relationship with Rin and she's pretty bad.

I like the UBW anime, don't like HF. And Nasu was only responsible for the changes in the former. Miura is a Sakurafag and an HFfag so he clearly was willing to let Nasu drive the wheel when it came to UBW -- he himself clearly didn't understand key aspects of UBW, though it's not that he didn't get Shirou's character until episode 20 like some people have deluded themselves but that he didn't really understand the romance between Rin and Shirou. Case in point:

Really shows why the 'shroom is a mixed bag.

To fully adapt Nasu's OG script would've required a 45 minute episode and Ufotable animators were clearly angry over there being three episodes in the show which were that long. You might say they should've had episode 12 be 25 mins long so the time and resources could be available for epilogue but that judgement is wholly dependant on whether or not they had even had any clue whether or not Nasu intended to add a whole new epilogue or that the script he would hand over would be that long.

Either way, these complaints reek to me of obsession with form over substance. What really mattered in Nasu's script was carried over into episode 25, and that is Shirou's inner conflict and his relationship with Rin, namely how he fears his choosing to not join the Association to pursue his ideals would be a betrayal of Rin, whom he feels immense gratitude toward for allowing him to accompany her. All the scenes and dialogues which pertained directly to this were adapted perfectly. I still get emotional whenever I watch Rin and Shirou's final conversation.

It's odd you focus on those two scenes as well and not the scene with Shirou in the desert, which is scene that was ACTUALLY poorly adapted.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's infinitely better handled in the remake. it made me care about Ciel and Shiki, something the original failed to do (at least for me). It's just that deep down, I don't feel like the love triangle added much to the route, the relationship between Ciel and Shiki is definitely interesting enough to not rely on narrative like this. For example, one of the scenes that I found particularly of poor taste was when Shiki started thinking about Ciel, but the scene essentially had Arcueid interrupt Shiki's monologue constantly. I guess the intention was to make a funny scene, but it had the opposite effect for me. Idk, I like how the route developed another aspect of Arcueid, but part of me doesn't like the love triangle. If anything I feel like more screentime for Noel, and by extension the whole Noel x Ciel x Shiki dynamic (not necessarily as a love triangle) would have been more interesting and fit the theme of the route better.

Sacchin will be against everyone, and Shiki will want to protect his classmate. The whole thing will turn into a huge massacre, and we will see Shiki at his lowest point where he will have to make extreme decisions in order to protect her desperately. They will probably bond, and find comfort in each other as they go through this shit. I remember Nasu mentioning somewhere that the Sacchin route is what inspired HF, so I'm guessing it will be heavy in consequence, and give us another aspect of Shiki, perhaps a Shiki who is more selfish/cruel in his decisions and embraces his Nanaya side more easily.

That's wrong. He didn't remove Saber for the romance, it was already going before her "death", and it was even way more sexual, lustful, and into your face than the previous routes. He removed her to make the situation more dire and to make Shirou's decision on abandoning his ideal more natural. If Saber was there I think she would be on killing Sakura or at best would make it more complicated. That's why killing Saber at the end is a symbolism of completely killing his ideals.
Also Shiki x Arc is too different from Shirou x Saber that the comparison doesn't hold.

I was really frustrated at Shirou (and at Nasu) when he went to have lunch with her even though Sakura made it for him and made it so obvious she wants to eat to him. Shirou was conveniently very dense in that scene, and in the time where she got kidnapped by Shinji as well.
That doesn't really qualify as a love triangle however since it exists only in Sakura's head, and neither Shirou nor Rin were trying to do anything romantic.

When I say better handled than the original, I'm mostly referring to Ciel x Shiki, I think the whole route really started to peak when Arcueid essentially fucked off from the route, centering the narrative on Ciel x Shiki (and Noel too). Shiki starting to slowly getting crazy because of Roa was absolutely kino too. This is why the love triangle annoys me, as the story could be centered much earlier on them, while getting Noel even more focus/a bit more involved in the trio without necessarily turning that into yet another love triangle. Honestly I loved the remake, but I can't help but feel that the potential of Ciel's route remains untapped narratively, like the whole sinner dynamic between the protagonist and the heroine could have been explored in greater depth, but Nasu somehow abandoned that narrative midway through the route to focus on things that don't add much.

I didn't mean to imply that Rin had any actual romantic intentions toward Shirou (she doesn't in her own route either -- however much she may like him, she is too selfless to pursue a relationship for her own sake) but that the scenes were for the most part included to cause friction between the sisters and provoke Sakura's resentment of Rin. They were included so sloppily though that Shirou goes from being a dense retard who is inconsiderate of Sakura's feelings to throwing away his ideals for her benefit in a single fucking day. The progression of the romance in HF is just completely fucked all around.

That said I prefer the VN version of events to the movies' which remove most of this stuff because frankly the relationship between the sisters in those is complete fucking dogshit and those scenes help gradually increase the tension between them. Their conflict is far more interesting that Shirou's romance with Sakura and the movies hardly improve on it in other respects. If anything they kinda strip of it of some it's more interesting aspects.

Wouldn't be Ciel route without their ties to Arc. It's Near Side and she's just integral to Shiki, Roa and Ciel's story. Everything revolving around the later parts with the love triangle and Roa is Kino. It compliments it immensely imo and Arc serves as the final wall to their relationship and something Shiki needs to handle personally. And it clearly ties into the overall narrative of their(Arc/Shiki) relationship that will probably be expanded on with more Arc content. In the end Arc in Ciel route is Kino and adds much to her character and the contrast between Ciel and Arc's perception of love in this route and why Ciel triumphed. So I'm happy for how they handled it. I can't even imagine a route without Ciel and Arcs rivalry as the climax. In the end, given their dynamic it really couldn't have gone down any other way. I also felt the sinner/atonement dynamic with Ciel and Shiki was handled beautifully. Arc is ultimately tied to that too when it comes to their conflict and continuing forward in life. Noelw as great though, she deserves her own route.

He blamed himself for what was happening and couldn't tolerate the thought of Arc vanishing like she would have after throwing her fit. Their relationship was saved and returned to what it was before the tragedy in the park. It was a miracle that basically involved tracing the universe back to it's origin lol.
