rethorical but the point is, your technique, stamina, speed, etc all go up as you go, they will never be lower than when you start and while you can force things to a degree, the "losing motivation" thing is your body saying you are overdoing it and burning out.
you have to do enough that doing it feels fun and stimulating and constructive, too much is as bad as too little, doing a little less now doesn't mean doing less forever, you will naturally feel like.doing more as you become faster/better/things click.

if you get tired of it and say fuck it, your progress becomes 0. you have to find a way to do things you can keep up for, well, probably not ever, but a while.

i am starting to realize that most japanese learners will never reach the point where reading japanese feels genuinely effortless like their native language, and it's not only because they don't read enough. it's because they refuse to allow themselves to relax back into the childlike state of mind that can immediately turn symbols into rich meaning, with no other mental or emotional complexes getting in the way (such as feeling like you have to prove something by getting good at japanese, inferiority complexes projected onto the language, できる vs できない false dichotomy, etc). all those concepts do is cause noise in the mind that interferes with the natural process of acquiring a language to the point of effortlessness. and most learners just refuse to let go of all that noise.

Anyone know where/how to look up common elisions/contractions/shortcuts people use in spoken Japanese? Things I've seen are like the extremely common phrase 何をいってんだ being short for 何をいっているのだ, or つっても being short for と言っても. I get that it's like "want to" being shortened to "wanna" or "did you" being shortened to "didja" in English, and obviously there's the whole regional dialects thing, but sometimes it's hard to even figure out what a text is supposed to be saying if it's not in any dictionary.
