Besides it not being ever marketed in the US, it is apparently been in preorder hell in Japan since it came out, so unless one were to find a willing scalper for the small runs one's shit out of luck.

It's a baby step towards that Bladrunner 2049 girl. Personally I would not bother for it, it's too underdeveloped, there are no eye contact for example. This. I got VR headset too and I'm programming my waifu to life.

But like the previous anon said, there is actually no really believable chatbot. Best you can probably get is like (old) Replika, which maybe was fun and surprising for its time, it was far away from real human. GPT-based ais like AI Dungeon or NovelAI can produce really great output but they are more like a tool for writing than an entity capable of thinking and discussion. Better to really just get a daki or doll and use your imagination.

I remember some video trying to market these to the west as little information kiosks aboard cruise ships and the like. I imagine that went nowhere at all. Seems pointless when you could just invest in AR instead. If you can wear VR headset, you can wear AR goggles and have a holo-wife that actually is able to move around instead of stuck inside a coffee maker.

I used white rabbit express once.

I haven't used any since 2020, but I've used many over the years and will second >>38981409 with White Rabbit Express.
There are a ton of different services that operate effectively the same, it's just a matter of cost vs. service. White Rabbit is one of the more expensive, but they are the only service I've used where there isn't a lot of back-and-forth needed, where they are always very timely in buying, packing, and shipping out, etc.

If you want cheap I think GOODY JAPAN is still around and the only issue was it being a more manual experience, but I haven't used them since like 2016.

This to be honest. They don't really offer much for the 1000$. And the fact that they just kicked out Miku in an update, just removed any credibility and hype I had for them. They talked how they want to bring people's waifus to their homes from other franchises but then removed everything like it never happened.

Personally, I'd just get one of these new 3D displays that you can get for 400$, not just 2D hologram in a tube. And make my waifu dance for me and maybe talk a bit on my desktop. Even if you can't program, it wouldn't be that hard to just learn basics of Unity and do something like that. You could even go full easy-mode and just get something like DialogFlow or some other service for making chat bots, they often have speech recognition and stuff like that in them. It wouldn't be baby's first program. It wouldn't be a baby first program, but it should be a good learning opportunity with gentle and untapped curve of effort/effect.
I have been considering to do it past few days actually. Maybe I'll take it as side project soon.
