It's basically Mei's plot from Rika's pov. Post-Matsuri, Post-Eternal June, suddenly everyone was killed and she's looping again. In one of these loops, she finds the Onigari and uses it to fight against these monsters that appear out of nowhere and kill everyone, but everyone still dies. Then at the end a new loop starts and she decides to attempt another method since brute force won't work.

Then you have a mysterious witch at the end laughing about how Mei's fragments are different from the ones Rika knows, and more like forgeries, so she can never change their fate and will be eternally in the game, then talking about how the future travellers will arrive soon to make things more fun.

Give me a Ciconia thread to talk about it.
Higurashi threads are mostly talking about which characters they like. There are some discussions about the new chapters but not much is said beyond repeating that some liked or didn't like Sotsu or the new manga chapters.
Umineko threads used to be able talking about the mystery but no one cares. It's to be expected after a decade since its final chapter.
Ciconia threads have the more interesting discussions because it's new (relatively) and since there's on continuation, like Umineko argues, without a conclusion that gives the answer, you have the perfect mystery. It's a catbox. Though, unfortunately, since people don't think, no one really argues, so the conversations don't even happen.

It's generally for those reasons that I don't spend too much time in /a/ or /jp/ 07th threads. It's repetitive and nothing is said. When you have foreknowledge, why bother?

Try to figure out who are the four spies. Motivate yourself to go through the story again to identify the culprit. As Erika says in Umineko, before you reach the end, give the mystery another read to see if you've missed anything. You have to apply that same standard for Ciconia, as it can be solved with only the first Phase.

Nah, they read. The problem is that they stopped thinking. Too many people come to the conclusion that everything is a simulation therefore why bother solving anything? It's an excuse to not think, and the few who do think don't have justifications for their conclusions, so you're left with people who don't think and idiots who think that the bare minimum thinking is enough. A lot of people disliked Ryukishi when he argued through Featherine that barely anyone thinks, but when you look at everyone's pathetic attempt at solving Ciconia, they all come up short. It's kind of sad because you would think that those who read Umineko would have taken up the challenge to solve it, but no one bothered. It's disappointing but oh well.

It really sucks that I enjoy Ciconia a lot yet there's no one to talk about it. It's even sadder because a lot of people say that they'll only read it once all the Phases come out, but Ryukishi intends on the story being a rollercoaster ride that doesn't need the audience to solve it if they don't want to. But it *is* solvable with the first phase, so you'd think people would at least try talking about it more, yet after the first month of its release, all discussion plummeted to zero. It's unfortunate but that's how it's been for the past two and a half years.

Ryukishi stated in an interview that he laid the all clues and foreshadowing from the start by working on the story for three years before writing Ciconia. The standard for Ciconia is different than in Higurashi.

Again, all mere justifications from idiots to stop thinking, but what can be expected from people who prefer not to think rather than bother even trying anything in their lives?

Even if it was exactly like EP1 of Higu and Umi you could still make a lot of theories from the first episode alone. I didn't solve the whole thing at EP1 but I made a lot of theories and had fun making them, most were completely wrong but some ended up kinda right. I don't think any WTC works are about getting it right, questions arcs are structured in a way that really inspires you to come up with all sorts of whacky shit but doesn't shoot almost any of your theories down

Every mystery story only has one canonical answer. That doesn't mean the author can't recognize an alternative suggested to him that would've been a better one. Ryukishi encountered fan theories, or at least claimed to have, that would've made for a better answer to Higurashi than the real one. That is in no way affected by the fact that there is only one 'true' answer.

Anon, I think we're talking at cross purposes here. Writing a story isn't math; correct and incorrect is not the same as good and bad.
A story structured like Higurashi necessitated a complete answer from the author at some point, in order for it to reach its conclusion. What I'm saying is that in the author chats after the answer arcs, Ryukishi recognized the quality of the theories as possible narrative conclusions. Their not being the canonical conclusion doesn't invalidate that quality.
All that being said, he could have been lying just to be nice to the fans, sure. I don't know the guy, and have no way of disproving that. All I was originally saying is that from what he expressed in Higurashi, I had the impression he was earnestly grateful to the fans for how they engaged with the question arcs, and that feeling only seemed to change to a more confrontational or contemptuous attitude to his readers in Umineko.

By the beginning of Episode 5, there was no trace of either horror or mystery left in the story. It's more a logic puzzle than anything.
Incredibly disappointing for someone who likes horror and mystery, and went in hoping for a story from the author of Higurashi.
