Depends.

Is it a sword fight?

Or are they perhaps fighting on horses (as Samurai and Knights both did most of the time.)

The European Knight was a heavy calvary unit. The weight of armor compined with a fast, strong horse would smash a huge lance through the enemy.

A Samurai, on the other hand, was mainly an archer. They rode lighter horses, in lighter armor and fired arrows at the enemy.

Long range does tend to beat short range, so the question is this: Can the samurais arrows pierce the knights armor and kill him before he gets impaled by a lance?
