That's it. I'm sick of all this "bastard sword" bullshit that's going on in the 4th Edition system right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the 4th Edition system. Here is the stat block I propose for katanas:

(Superior One-Handed Melee Weapon)
2d10 base damage
+5 proficiency bonus
Heavy blade, light blade (counts as both)
High crit, off-hand, reach, versatile

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of katanas in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Katanas need to do more damage in 4th Edition, see my new stat block.

I refuse to believe the best samurai in the damn world would have a shot against even a mediocre knight. They simply can't get through metal armor.

>> No.3813985

They can. They just need to use heavy bludgeoning weapons to do it, which would make them too slow to not be killed first.

>Implying the multilayed armor of the samurai wasn't more defensive, cost efficient, and speed efficient than the Knight's armor.

The design of the samurai armor is still being used to day in our modern bullet proof vest. The Eurofags thought, "herf derf, more metal most be more defensive." While the Japs understood that multiple layers literally reduce the force of impact.

Also, the Katana is no joke. You could easily slice a piece of paper in half just by dropping it on a katana at enough speed.

Actually it wasn't. Samurai armor was just about as heavy but it had massive holes in it. Seeing as you really couldn't get through either with a melee weapon, Knight armor wins.

The reason everyone masturbates over the Katana so much is because it was used in an area and period in which no one had shields nor decent armor.

Of course it fucked people up.

Knight has been trained his whole life to look for the slightest hole or weakness in a suit of armour, and jam a big pointy bit of metal in it.

Spoken like somebody who gets his idea of medieval armor from D&D.

Hint: Knight armor was layered and cushioned. It's just that the outer layer was made out of steel, which a katana can't do anything against.

Knight weapons on the other hand were designed to be used against other armored enemies.

It was a simulation of real life martial arts experts that came in and started doing what the real Samurais and Vikings did.
Weapons tested:
Viking Weapons: Great Axe, Long Sword, Spear, Shield
Samurai Weapons: Katana, Naginata, Yumi, Kanabo

Both were tested for there killing efficiency and other things.

>> No.3814598

>>3814590
Details on weapons.

>-The Katana was tested first against three bamboo mats and managed to cut them all in one clean swipe in under half a second. Then, it was tested on pigs and managed to cut through two pigs clean. After this it was against chain mail, which it impacted but failed to defeat. The Viking Axe nearly cleaved its gel dummy in half but bounced off of a solid Samurai helmet in an overhead chop, but it still transferred energy. The narrow and close advantage was given to the axe due to its greater killing power.

>-The Naginata proved itself as a quick ranged weapon by slicing a dummy with several quick cuts, taking off part of the head in one, slashed the face in the second and poked the heart on the last. The Long Sword was very effective, as it made a very deep slash across the back of the head and into the brain cavity in the first, impaled it through the neck on the second and made a final slash across the neck. After Max messed with the head, it fell off the torso, further showing its deadliness. The edge was given to the sword due to its killing power.

>> No.3814599

>>3814598
Continued.
>-The spear was thrown at targets 25 feet away and penetrated wood targets that were several inches thick. Then, two spears were thrown at once and still showed the same amount of penetration. The Yumi bow was shot by Shigematsu at two dummies at 45 feet while calling out his shots, saying where he would hit it and hit his targets. He also wanted to show the Yumi's accuracy by shooting out dummy eyes at 25 feet, which he did successfully. A divided panel gave the edge to the accuracy and range of the Yumi.

>-A round shield proved itself effective as a defensive shield and a bludgeoning weapon. A very large, 35-lb version of the Japanese mythological warclub, the Kanabo, was used by Chan. He was able to shatter a cow's femur and break off a part of the shield, although half of the studs in the club were knocked out in the process. In a comparison of killing ability, the kanabo was given the edge.

If your gonna ask 'why did they use pigs for testing' pigs bone density and strength is really close to a humans.

The World's Deadliest Warriors. It was pretty bad ass, and so was the Apache Vs the Gladiator one. You don't fuck with Apache's, one thing they're bat shit crazy and two they carry like a dozen bladed weapons on them at any given time. And they still do today. Plus they were quick and had their own style of grappling that was pretty bad assed.

That show also did Yakuza vs American Mob and Knights Vs Pirates. The mob and the Pirates one those matches. The pirates won because they had guns, the Mob won because they had sawed off shot guns and the Tommy Gun was better than the machine gun the Japanese used.
