I'd rather have a much smaller, personal story to properly explore the setting. This way they can provide depth to a smaller cast of characters rather than shoehorn countless caricatures into a story that don't need to be there and who provide nothing of value. The same goes for the existing cast, if there is no true purpose and plan to develop them meaningfully and add to the story then stop rehashing shit. Save them for when you want to actually focus on them(Tsukihime 2 or whatever). There is plenty of stuff they can do. How about make a Nier type game with Ciel? A prequel that expands the church some and focuses on the years after the France incident where she kills 3 Ancestors and trains under one? In general, the idea is that this takes place well after Tsukihime and while he doesn't know when his time will come, he's having fun, loves life more than anyone and is enjoying it as much as you can while looking forward to what is to come. No point worrying about it. No regrets. Aoko is stunned by his way of being. Who knows what will happen? Miracles exist. The impossible is only impossible because someone hasn't realized it yet.

I hope they get away from blank slate protagonists. I'd rather have an actual character interacting with the story. At least if you want that type of protagonist... do it right. Like some western rpgs handle it. The actual Tsukihime cast obviously still has a lot of story to tell whether it past events like for Ciel or future stuff hinted at the end of Remake and Tsukihime 2 back in the day. But yeah, Tsukihime world has so much potential. A Bloodstained/Castlevania type game would be amazing. Imagine having Lorelei and her brigade investigating some decrepit castle of some super vampire and running into Kill stealing Shiki post Tsukihime. I'd really love a sekiro style game that takes place in the past and focuses on the formation of the Demon Hunter Organization. Maybe some threat too big occurs that forces the other clans to begrudgingly seek help from the Nanaya who they view as worse than demons. They got the resources and groundwork to do so much cool shit in the setting.

Blank slates typically hamstring the 'protagonist' into being a relatively useless focal point character where everything relies on other characters being interesting and carrying a one-sided and shallow series of interactions. If that isn't the case then the protagonist becomes even more useless and basically exists just as a camera that hovers around the real protagonist or characters in the story. The only time it actually works is in huge games with tons of impactful decisions where the blank slate can basically develop into a character based on the player's choices. That involves so much more work and a truly interactive and living world setting that it's so rarely properly executed and JRPGs rarely come close to doing it decently let alone effectively. People definitely shit on SMT/Persona and they do it way fucking better than the rest of their class. They at least create a semi-defined character of importance who branches out and affects the story. What you usually get is God-Eater or Monster Hunter tier shit. Souls games are one of the few from JPN developers I can think of that manages to tell a good story with a joe blow but their background world setting and their mechanism of storytelling is what makes it successful more than any traditional character interactions. All this aside, TM has shown zero ability to do it right. They've actually done exactly what you cite as being bad. It's rarely worth the blank slate and hardly ever the better option to tell a story. It's only suitable to specific experiences.

So, /tmg/ it's time to ask some real questions. Two of them to be precise.

1. DAs are said to be dead, but TAs (e.g. Arc) are not? I would assume Arc is considered to be alive.

2. What's so dead about DAs/vampires, anyway? Does their heart not beat and their blood is still? But they appear to breathe, which obviously implies blood circulation. Also, it's obviously impossible to have any cell activity without cells being provided with oxygen and nutrients. It obviously goes both for muscle cell (locomotion) as well as for brain cells (cognition). You can vaguely accept that zombies move by burning their remaining storages of ATP (although it wont last a minute, but lets stretch it), so you can accept some semblance of movement for a limited amount of time in zombies, but DAs etc appear to completely functional for the most part, which implies blood circulation/a beating heart.
So why are they even considered dead?
Lets remind ourselves what is being dead even mean. It means being in a state, when recovering to the functional state is impossible. We don't consider frozen frogs and another organisms that are capable of cryopreservation to be dead when they are in the frozen state.
That means that the state of being dead is subjective, and is dependent on our capabilities to recover/resuscitate a human from a specific (disabled) state. Which should be, to be honest, pretty obvious: a lot of cases (deep comas etc) that are now curable were considered irreversible a thousand years+ ago, and people who are considered to be dead can be resuscitated today. And the line when a person is considered dead will continue on going down in the future with new advances in medical knowledge and technology, that's inevitable (hence the reason for cryogenics today, but that's another topic).
So being dead basically means that you can't return to be your active conscious self be today's means. But vampires don't seem to fit into the category of being dead in any way.
Now, what weird qualities do vampires posses in Tsuki?
1. They seem to not be able to reproduce by normal means, but that's just what being sterile is, nothing more.
2. There is also the thing that they need other people's blood for the genetic material to prevent their cells from degeneration. That's a bit weird, but you can imagine some kind of decease that requires a very specific nutrients to allow proper cell's division. You can also try to tie it to some kind of DNA's telomere disorder (possibly, telomerase activation), which could be stretched both to explain almost unlimited regeneration abilities, as the telomeres never get shortened, and the cell degeneration, as telomerase activation is linked to cells becoming cancerous. Also, becoming younger after becoming a DA also can potentially be explained this way, since your telomeres' length will be restored.
But all these things (a wild speculations as they are) point to a mere (albeit very weird) genetic disorder, not being dead.
So in my opinion, DAs should be considered to be alive as TAs are (probably) considered to be.

Because the story she has with Shiki is amazing. It's one of Nasu's peak relationships. Complete Kino with how it began, impacted Shiki and evolved when they met again. It's beautiful enough to make you shed some tears really for it's emotional importance. I really love how he met her again and they show how not only has he grown up to be the man she knew he could be but that he become even better than she imagined. The first part of F/GO is also all about the same thing. Camelot, one of the chapters written by Nasu, is about how shitty things would have turned out if Bedivere never returned Excalibur to the lady of the lake, turning him and Saber immortal. Also, the master plan of the big bad guy of F/GO was resetting the universe so humans wouldn't have to die and he's beaten after lots of segments of the MC's kouhai coming to terms with the fact that life is not meaningless just because you're going to die someday.
The mushroom has been writing about the same thing for over 20 years, you'd think he'd be bored of it by now.

Kouma's story was pretty interesting. When he defeats Vlov it once again hints that Vlov is holding back some power as he's protecting 10 souls. Probably the same mention to the blood of 10 that he doesn't use. His wives? It also mentions something else going on in the city. Probably Roa's ritual. In Arc route they think he's possibly Roa up until Mario confirms it not being the case. Things play out differently in Ciel so there is more investigation apparently. You're right about Ciel realizing that he is adopted as a result. So seems her investigation into the past incident between Shiki and SHIKI lead her to understand that much. She isn't aware that he's a Nanaya though so it's only that far. She mentions he's just a child from who knows where and I take the line about him not knowing what happened to be fairly literal in that he doesn't know anything.
