My opinion was swaying at first but this movie is gorgeous in the way it tells its characters story. I love movies that exhibit a mundane life with a stereotypically average person as the protagonist. The vibes were topnotch. I'm a sucker for 90's/00's Japan so it felt nostalgic.

I like the fact that Kawashima's answers don't feel forced by making funny faces or changing the style of his speech drastically. His sense of the Japanese language is topnotch too.

I've seen the movie once now and feel like I at least owe you my random thoughts about it haha:

For whatever reason the movie is shot in black and white, which seems to be a pattern for the director, but I haven't seen any of his other works yet. It's almost 2 hours long and only features about a handful of characters, most of them are conveniently hot women which was cool but also felt a bit like I was watching porn intros, for example in one scene he went to the hot doctor, in the next to the hot dentist and so on, maybe it was intentional that in the eyes of the slacker film-maker everybody else seemed so attractive, but probably I'm just overthinking things.

The simple plot follows the seemingly relaxing daily life of the kind of dickish film-maker and his amusing encounters with various sorts of people by using the concept of repeating very similar days. The style reminded me a bit of Groundhog Day, and I like how they used the the same camera-angles for the specific parts of the day to create familiarity, so for every morning and evening that he spends in his room two different angels are repeatedly used.
There was a weird artsy part somewhere in the middle which I found interesting but also a bit pretentious by asking questions like What is wrong with japanese movies or something, though I still think about a few questions.
I think its funny that I thought the main character was a dick but also relatable to me, like he doesn't do much actual film-making, so he could also be a neet and the story wouldn't make much less sense.
So all in all the movie was a slow and comfy experience, maybe a little too long for the story it tells, and I am sure I missed some things, but the cute tomboyish librarian alone made the movie worth it for me.

Kinnikuman: THE LOST LEGEND final episode.
This is one of the weirdest dramas I've ever watched in a long time. The wrestling match was very fun. The reason for the Kinkeshi Curse might have been a bit too random for me though, in the end it was all about Yudetamago, the creators of Kinnikuman.

Yea I was expecting some Sherlock shit but it just became a testament to unreliable narrators and how fickle social media makes people. They hate you one day then say they always believing you the next or vice versa. I also began to feel really bad for and sympathize with the suspect the more we learned about her. Sono Sion excels in making psychological thrillers and this one was shaggy-plotted. We witness an anxious introvert gets broken down and corrupted into the worst human behavior possible. What made it so eerie to me is how realistic it felt.

Shinji Aoyama was hitting it out of the park in the 00's, nothing but perfect, tranquil, melancholic vibe movies. Wonderfully utilized photography, editing and deft, subtle character work. What I liked about Cold Fish is how actively abrasive and unapproachable it felt. Everything about the film is hostile and deplorable, from the characterization, through absence of anything empathetic and redeemable to the intentionally ugly digital look. It's like a reflection on how these kinds of stories always get embellished for entertainment or artistic value (and Sono certainly is not an exception - The Forest of Love is basically the same movie, but fun and for the latter example you have Antiporno), but Cold Fish offers no such way out. It's cruel and hollow, through and through. It's such a whiplash to watch, but the longer the movie sat with me, the more I liked it.

Sigh, I know IMDB ratings are shit, but usually even IMDB is right when movies has score less then 6.0. I was really surprised when I watched Takahisa Zeze's The Promised Land. I found the movie to be amazing. I mean, there is lot going on and some of the story connections are not convincing, but it's still captivating story.

Then I watched his another movie My Friend "A" and it was another great movie. Maybe not good as Promised Land but story was more contained and it was about interesting issue.

I have plan to watch all Zeze's movies from 2010-2020. All his previous movies seem to be Pinku films and I don't really care about the genre. Some 60s/70s pinku goes but overall most of them are not for me.

...But I really do recommend very least The Promised Land. Don't let trailers fool you. It's dark and gruesome story.

It's far from peak. That's stuff that gets international releases. For example Miike and Sono mainly direct shit movies but they have small solid fanbase that gets them into international circuit. Many good movies don't even get english release and you have to go with fansubs. Not to mention those atrocious Outrage movies. First Outrage is ok popcorn flick, I'll go that far. But the rest are just nonsense.

Sensei was handsome and very charismatic I completely understand why everyone loved him. The eye in the gun thing reminded me of nightmare from soul calibur. I understand where you're coming from. In Outrage's sequels case, when you look at them objectively, they're inferior to their prequel which itself isn't to everyone's taste. I loved the trilogy because I'm a Beat/Kitano Takeshi fanatic for one and overall love his storytelling and directing style. I think the end indicates that the teacher thinks he's not gonna get executed, maybe declared as an insane person and be locked away but released at some point and when he does get released he will finish the job and kill the survivors. Noob anon here, I only saw JP shows that been aired on waku waku channel and my fave is before and after special where they rebuild houses. Also I have question:

Several years ago (2012 or 2014?) my friend showed me this Japanese TV live action series that seems to be very ecchi in nature. The plot is typical harem style story and the girls usually ended up wearing skimpy clothing or underwear. The preview for the next episode is the girls talking about what we can expect for the next episode while they removing their clothing one by one and the scene always cut before they remove their bra. I really want to watch the entire series but I completely forgot the name of the show and where can I find them.
