Now I'm all for the conventional stylistic interpretations of some doujin artists, but recently something about ZUN's artwork has grown on me with its amateurish yet professional[?] look that I can't help but enjoy. That being said, are there any doujins or animations in particular that try to emulate ZUN's style and don't go with their own art style? I'm genuinely curious.

Same here. I'm impressed by their near OVA quality to them. They even have that sort of 2000's glare effect every anime seemed to have back then. Would've much loved to see a full series like this instead of what we got with Fantasy Kaleidoscope.

A: Sanae rocks that outfit. Hecatia's style is an objective improvement over Sanae's usual robes.

B: Hecatia is a better goddess than Kanako. Her plan of "become ridiculously OP at magic to get people to worship you as a god" is much more solid than the Moriya ponzi scheme of "get the next generation to worship you after you die".

C. Sanae is a better servant than Clownpiece. Sorry, Clownpiece is still a fucking fairy. Sanae has divine genetics.

So all in all Hecatia should take Sanae in as an apprentice for a century or two until she's a deity in more than title.

II'd say people treat online communities now more like "fads" rather than something you're tightly-knit in with a lot of in-jokes and commitment. Because of this memes are more "cosmopolitan" and don't require a lot of investment to "get" them. Basically just "haha it's Touhou but they're among us characters!!". Don't have to actually care about the series to make memes like that so they become more prevalent. You can probably find a lot of people whose knowledge of Touhou starts and ends at fumos.
Then again I'm basically talking out of my ass but it's fun to speculate.

Yeah. I suppose Zun cut down on them for time constraints but they definitely added more character rather than just a static pose with varying emotions. I'm certain a few fangames have brought it back to a degree.
