and yes 512 is not enough for w7, also w7 only supports like 3 video cards, so check to see if yours is supported or not. (most likely not)

I tried installing it on a separate hard drive. Visual novels, Touhou games, and Illusion games worked fine on Windows 7 with my 512MB of RAM. I think that I should be enough for me.

Turn off superfetch and aero if you do install 7.

I wouldn't install Win7 on any systems with less than 2 gigs of ram, and even that may not be enough. I had to upgrade my laptop with an extra gig because it couldn't handle some new games very well on the new OS.

Laptops came with 1gig as standard just-under 3 years ago when I got mine for the Vista release. 512 at 3 years ago is easily believable.

DDR2 has doubled in price and DDR3 has gone up 30% and is cheaper than DDR2 now.
