Getting to the end of Virche. Done the true route and just collecting the unlocked endings now.
I enjoyed it. There's parts I was sort of rolling my eyes at, but also a lot of places I was like oh that's actually pretty neat. Of course the art is also god tier as people have already noted.
It has some good boys. Yves is pure wife material. Before you go on about ntr I don't even care. I just want him to be happy. I thought his friendship with Adolphe was really sweet also. Like the scene where Yves and Ankou meet and Yves starts fanboying. Or how Adolphe dying for Yves in Yves' route mirrors Yves dying for Adolphe in the original timeline. The whole thing about Adolphe being this relatively normal guy who by all means shouldn't have got the true route spot was nice too. I wasn't expecting to like him at all but he ended up one of my favorites.
Also this has got to be one of the most violent commercial otome games out there right? I feel like Black Wolves Saga didn't even have this much graphic violence though maybe I'm misremembering.

Why do people here hate it so much? From a gameplay standpoint, it is pretty annoying if you're trying to get their crush's ending but I liked that you gotta befriend them and make them like you a lot for them to give up, and the fact that they have their own endings with variations depending on whether you went into rival mode at some point or not.
I don't hate the rival system, but I definitely prefer the PvP mode in 3 by far (by the way, does that still exist in 4 in any form I haven't played enough to tell)?

Speaking of which, I used to want a hypothetical TMGS4 to have more interactions between the guys like in 3, but with more than 2 guys, and I'm happy that it sort of became a reality.

Honestly among the love interests he initially seemed like the most bland guy who has this overprotective big brother stereotype which is the staple in most otomate games but he surprisingly actually has some depth. Especially when you realize he initially acted the part to get close to Ceres and everyone else so no one would suspect of his identity. Loved the idea of his normality being the one who makes him feel the anomaly in the island because he's an outcast, which leads to him feeling suicidal and finding a place to die on. The scene where he says it's fine if Ceres is his death reaper so he can die in her arms, finally finding his place, was a great scene. For once, Otomate's "true" poster boy doesn't suck.

Yeah, probably. That scene in Scien's route where Adolphe's head gets decapitated and Ceres becomes mindbroken at the sight of it and afterwards is a School Days-tier scene where the text makes it clear that she's embracing his severed head while having an empty look on his face was a bit disturbing. Then in Yves' route he literally gets blown into pieces. I find it somewhat amusing that he has the highest death count among the LIs. He just doesn't catch a break.

I see. I like it this way, it's barely noticeable, still same old TMGS, but they changed some stuff that made sense, namely the e-mail was replaced with the modern equivalent.

By the way, I think I'm getting used to the shitty art already, mostly beacause the animations are fairly decent, although some CGs have kinda fucked up art that's hard to ignore, pic related.
Otherwise it's been a really solid game so far.

Finished Yoshiwara Higanbana. Initially got it because it got raving reviews but that true ending was so abysmal it left a bad taste afterwards. Out of all the routes I probably only ended up liking Souichirou, Tatsukichi and Akito's. Sakuya is cute but his route is a bit mediocre. Not only was the true end awful but every character in it was retarded especially Rin. The game tries hard to sell Shigure as this tragic figure but his character was so retardedly inconsistent that it made his motivations feel cheap (not that it was good in the first place). It boggles me how Rin could still bring herself to go back to the burning brothel and die with him after learning everything he did. She probably developed some Stockholm Syndrome through the course of the story.
The true end really tried hard to sell the story as tragedy but the game would've been much better if it ended at Souichirou's bad ending. That bad end was actually phenomenal and it made me emotional. Then after clearing his best ending you unlock a route that is inferior in every way and it was actually the TRUE ending of the game.
I've seen people comparing this with Chou no Doku Hana no Kusari but honestly CnD is miles better because not only the antagonist there is a more compelling character, but he's also consistent in all routes, making him more fleshed out as a character.

I can read a bit of jp but not enough to play a whole vn and I had a feeling throughout the whole game that the localization was too liberal and may have ruined some of the nuances in the original text. My suspicions were confirmed (?) I found a blog that described the ending as

After lurking here for about 2 years, I finally decided to pick up tokimemo.
I never played an otome or a vn with stat raising system before, so it took me one route to realize how it works etc. 8 only save slots is damn tough, but I can handle, I found a very useful guide too. I tried the game on my ds but my ds is almost 20 years old, dead pixels etc, but mostly I didn't like turning my ds upside down. Weird. It runs perfectly on Android draStic app, which I got for free too kek. I will probably play the ps2 versions as well. It's kinda low the jp level, dekinai friendly.

My first route was the megane ugly girl, and then madokas normal end. He is so cute. His confession was just so good. I even felt kinda sad when I turned him down just to see the dialogue lol.
Now I will just do all the side charas, so I can focus on the boys later on.
I just finished the delinquent dude, both his yankee and pimp style. Shame there was no skinship, but while playing his route I had a lot of fun bullying all the main boys. I enjoyed their reactions when I dressed like a hooker in front of purefags or combined a lot of styles together, "danger". Skinship went on rape mode too.
But for some reason, they seemed to enjoy my harassment and ended up almost confessing to me. It was funny bc they all did at the same time. Robot sensei doesn't comment on my outfits though. Why.

I'll tell you my EOP middle school experience. The first "otome" game I ever played was harvest moon: more friends of mineral town in 2005. The girl who sat next to me in one of my classes in seventh grade was playing it and I fell in love with it instantly. My mom bought it for me and I got her to play the DS ones later too.
I was kind of a shut in kid who couldn't get on the internet very much, so my next exposure to otome games was unfortunately some of the Winter Wolves games. I thought they were ass back then, but I played what I could get my hands on. At least I pirated them. Then came the voltage games that I also pirated. Ironically these were from my first otome games, pacthesis ones, the closest I could get back then, because in my third world shithole internet and owning a pc wasn't a thing till early 2010s.
I remember playing these games on my richfag cousins laptop or at school during pc class.
It was too slow the internet and if you tried to pirate you got ransomware 100%.
I discovered otome and bl 2014 or 2015 was it. Then aarin saved me from the formats.
I still remember my desperate eop days with Atlas translation that made no fucking sense. Eops have it so easy now with deepl and textractor. Still not 100% accurate but much better than atlas aspergers. And if you know some basic Japanese and grammar it's much easier.

I forgot how I discovered otome, but it was either in 2010 or 2011 that I tried the first TokiMemoGS port on emulator with the translation patch. My dumb middle-schooler ass kept getting the shit endings (Goro and little brother) so I stopped trying. Then, I downloaded the two OELVNs RE:Alistair and the Date Warp demo and loved them. (I couldn't buy and play the full version of Date Warp until recently; it's ok btw).
The following year, since I was a huge fujo, I played my first BL games, first that Brooks Cafe shit from deviantART, then Zettai Fukujuu Meirei (I wanted to play Kichiku Megane too but didn't know even a bit of Japanese).
A couple of years later, I tried Hadaka Shitsuji with the TL patch, and began posting on /blog/ back when it was on /vg/. The following year I tried TMGS again (this time, the three of them) and that's probably where I became a yumejo. So I have to thank RE:Alistair and TMGS for being so attached to dating sims instead of pure VNs like most otome games nowadays.

What I did in highschool and still do but very rarely, is making the characters of the vn I loved the most at sims for the whole yumejo self insert experience.
Thankfully there were already ready ones sims and ccs other yumejos made.
I also downloaded the weirdest porn mods that existed as well for the whole experience.
Sims 4 is shit, but now you can customize every single detail and make them as close to the original LI as possible. I also try to customize the voice to be as close as possible to the seiyuu.
Nothing beats 2D tho, 3D feels kinda weird to me sometimes. 3DPDish?
