When people complain about the rougher edges of MGE they always go with either "KC isn't a very good writer" or "the MGE setting is actually a horrible dystopia". But they never seem to entertain the possibility that maybe it's the translation that isn't 100% faithful?
I mean, it's not exactly a secret that KC sicced his lawyers on the MGU guys because they were twisting his setting into a shithole of emasculation and brainwashing. And that a few of their old translations are still floating around.

That's not how these things work. Typically there's several "faces" of a series, and the ones that make it to that status usually are ones that fulfill different niches. Hellhound and Cheshire are both very popular and I think could easily place as the current faces (Others being Baphomet and Gazer (and before anyone says Gazer absolutely does have recognition outside of Gazerfag)).
