Romance series in anime and manga can be different like day and night.
Just depending on the demographic publication(sjoujo, seinen, shonen, josei), you already have a different set of cliches.
Add teh difference in-between series.
But like everything else, the GOOD shit is the minority.

Jesus, I thought I was the only one. Romance should never be a main theme in any anime, it completely ruins it. The only show that developed romance properly and had it as a big part was Planetes.
