Mahouyo ended on a fairly concrete route, so I'm satisfied. I know Nasu planned to continue it, but it's not like the story stops midway through.

Also, I'm not sure why no one has mentioned this, but the production quality for Tsukihime-R is nowhere near Mahouyo (aside from VA). I know Mahoyo was probably overproduced and never intended to make a profit, but considering the advertisements Tsuki-R has got – compared to Mahouyo's none – I was surprised how less flashy it was. Maybe it's because it's longer and the flashy stuff comes later.

>> No.36293652

>>36293268
>the production quality for Tsukihime-R is nowhere near Mahouyo (aside from VA)
Huh, you really think so? The assets are all clearly higher quality and the CGs are gorgeous. Well I guess I haven't seen anything as flashy as Aoko laser beams yet as far as the scripting goes but I'm still only on the 4th day. It seems extremely well produced to me at any rate.

>> No.36293709

Have you gotten to the slice and dicing of Arcueid yet? If not, you might change your tune on that part. I'd say Tsuki R has higher production quality so far in every department except the scripting. But I'm assuming I'm just not far enough in story yet.

Of course and I agree that it was amazing. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure there's good stuff in here. It's just later in the story. The few fire effects and stuff I've seen have been very nice.

While I might have sounded negative, I haven't dislikedTsuki-R so far; the production (and direction) quality in Mahouyo was just so far beyond what one would expect in VNs, and so far Tsuki-R hasn't matched that—this doesn't make it bad, of course. I've heard the NES detective club VNs have also stellar production quality, having both Nintendo funding and being relatively short—ten hours or so—but I haven't tried them myself.

Some visual novels I'd love to see translated to English are the works of a group called Lump of Sugar. Original tsukihime was pretty easy for a so called chuunige too. VNs frankly aren’t very hard unless they’re dealing extensively with a lot abstract ideas, and there’s very few VN like this. You get used to an authors purple prose after 20k or so 文字.

Very true. I'll add that a lot of the "very hard to read" VNs are due to the author just being bad at conveying simple things, which makes the reading process unnecessarily complicated. It's not the kind of thing one would notice if they hadn't read enough in their native language to be able to spot it, so a lot of the time it gets passed off as things that will "test your JP knowledge" instead of what it really is, "test your reading skills".

While I do agree that Mahoyo is visually much more flashy and meaty (and personally in this aspects still stands at the top of Novel games can offer) compared to Tsukihime Remake, I do believe it is the intention in a way, not really a matter of "budged"and stuff like this. Mahoyo was something that tread a new path (exaggerated but you get the idea). With Tsukihime it seems appropriate to make it new and fresh but also more reminiscent of the original (slightly more static etc.). English was my second language and Japanese is my fourth. I've never dared read a visual novel in my native tongue, saying that'd be hellish, especially considering the limited lexicon of all fantranslators that even try to pull that shit off, is selling it short.
I also learnt Japanese for videogames in general, both old and new, moreso than eroge. Something that I find interesting, and I'm not quite sure how to feel about, is the technology update to reflect the fact the VN is now set 20 years later. Nasu's done a lot of lampshade hanging about it, there's lines about how their old-fashioned uniforms were recently updated to be more modern, or how in the time Shiki's been away the Tohno house has been redone to be more high-tech. It's interesting to see how he's trying to fit 20 years of differences into the same framework. That said, I do kinda miss the late 90s/early 2000s charm of the original.

Like what really is the point of using 棄てる as opposed to 捨てる. The only guess I could hazard was that it's used to express discarding concepts like pride more significantly as opposed to something like discarding a piece of furniture. Which is inconvenient. Are you telling me to search kanji by radicals every time I find a word I don't know? At least we are not using MTL. Let's be real, most people here are N5 at best and need text hookers to read.

>> No.36356695

Playing VNs without a text hooker isn't realistic even for most people that do know Japanese, lol. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should... particularly if you don't want to take twice as much time at it. Trying to convince a newbie to do without at least using jparser is cruel, to say the least. It's like cutting someone open then staking them over an anthill.

I really hope they don't. I know nasu is a retard that will fuck it up, but the whole thing is about plot revelations and shiki going insane, the fights are so secondary in that regard.
Like, being stalked and hunted by Akiha's hair is cool, but that's basically it and his fights against SHIKI where pretty low key, I wouldn't want him to start asspulling roa magic or something.
