What are some good 1/2 resin BJD's? Is it worth getting one? Clothes and wigs that size are hard to find.

>> No.36253070

>>36252251
Dollmore makes bigger dolls and they make clothes and wigs for them too.
>Is it worth getting one?
Depends on why you want it Personally I wouldn't, but that's something you have to decide. Watch some unboxing videos to get a feel for the size (and weight).

>> No.36254810

>>36253070
I want a larger size doll but it seems like they're not that common to find and also very expensive.

>> No.36255193

>>36254810
Obitsu makes a 150cm doll (as well as a pair of 1:2 dolls,) that are a little more affordable, but they are vinyl and the 150cm doll has a painted-on face, if I recall. There are also some 1:2 dolls from Smart Doll (they are incredibly expensive) and Paper Moon (who made a poseable Chii ages ago that still pops up once in a while on the secondhand market.) Unfortunately, resin is not my strong-suit in knowledge, but as the other anon mentioned, Dollmore Trinity are plenty big!

If you think they'll make you happy and it's in the budget, you should go for it -- I'd love to see one of the bigger dolls, personally.

>> No.36256223

>>36252251
Dollmore does the 105cm Trinity line. I understand you can buy children's clothes for them, but that seems kinda weird imo. Their Lusion line is 80cm, which is apparently also 1/2 scale.

Spirit Doll has the 75cm Dolce line, which I think looks better than Dollmore's dolls. Bit cheaper, too.

There's a company called Conarium that has a 120cm line. I was only able to find them on Stacy's Pink Ocean, I couldn't find their own site.

There's probably more, but those are the ones I know about. I'd like to get one but it probably isn't in the cards for a while.

I’ve got the Volks saddle stand and the Alice invisible stand and I recommend the saddle. I hardly ever use the invisible stand. Like ever. If you’ve got a character that can fly then it might be worthwhile, otherwise expect any center hugging stand to just wrinkle the outfit in the middle.

What do you think about the different sizes, sd vs msd?
I'm wondering for my first doll. There were two ones I liked, one of each.

>> No.36380927

You'll find lot of clothes and accessories available for both. The main difference between the two sizes I find is aesthetic. Most of the clothes and accessories available for 1/3 size will be more mature older teen/adult styles, and the 1/4 sizes will be more younger teen and cutesy/moe. Not that's there's not cross over, but I find most people have definite ages in mind for their dolls based on size, at least when it comes to the vinyl dolls.

I've been keeping an eye out for the perfect head for my Alice doll. If you've seen the manga-style illustrated Alice's Adventures in Wonderland book, that design is basically what I'm looking for, probably with a smiling open mouth where the top row of teeth are visible.
Anyway, the face-up artist who made my other two girls' heads just put up a head that is just adorable (pic related). The eyes aren't exactly the shape I want (I'd like them to be rounder). The eye color is blue-green, which I really like, but I imagine Alice to have blue eyes. And the fangs are certainly out of place for an Alice doll. But damnit she's so adorable I'm considering bidding on this head for my Alice.
I suppose there's always the option of making a new original girl, but I don't know if I'm ready for another original girl just yet, while still planning to get an Alice doll.

Eyes are super easy to swap out, don't let that put you off. But if she's close but not quite it's really up to you anon. You could be glad you waited when another one shows up, or you could be ruing the day you missed out. But I think you're right for what it's worth. The fangs don't really fit, and a wig and eyes will drastically change the look of a doll head in any case, so what you wind up with once you get a wig and eyes you want may look nothing like this picture.

>Eyes are super easy to swap out, don't let that put you off.
They are, but I really do like that color. I'm pretty sure I'm going to bid on the head. The only question now is whether I'll use it for Alice or an original. Sure she wouldn't exactly have the usual Alice features, but that would give her some uniqueness and make her stand out from other, more stereotypical Alices. I guess that's one way I could look at it. I also think she would be really cute with silver hair, and maybe fox ears and tail.

>Where'd you order the dress?
The dress is being made by Nanairo Tentou. They have a Booth page but everything is sold out.
>I need some more MDD clothes, I'm just getting into 1/4 dolls recently. Also, does anyone know a good place to get cheap shoes?
A lot of makers sell their clothes on Booth (I usually find them on Twitter, but you could just search for MDD on booth), and some have their own shop pages. You can also find a few on Etsy. There are also stores like Dolk, from-sen, Little Wonder Wardrobe. The first two are resellers and both have clothes and shoes, among other things. Little Wonder I believe makes their own stuff, but they only sell clothes and wigs, no shoes. Besides Etsy, you need to use a proxy to order from any of those sites (assuming you don't live in Japan).
Speaking of shoes, I still haven't bought shoes for Tiara. I usually borrow Chino's shoes for her, but I completely forgot them on our last camping trip.

You can do it both ways. Some people buy the premades and some then change their hair and eyes to make them into different looking dolls or send the heads off to artists to have the makeup removed and custom face applied. You can also get a body and have a custom head commissioned or paint one yourself if you have the talent. DIY painting can be a huge investment in materials though, so it's understandably off putting. You can also just buy them (at least with Volks) one piece at a time and assemble them yourself with a custom head or buy a head second hand. I've personally "built" three dolls, one from a head I commissioned and a premade body, and two I bought premade heads for from an artist and assembled the bodies myself from option parts.
I'd say, if you have a fashion that you're aiming for already, buy a assembled base body from Volks and get a head from an artist or commission one. That way you can pick your own eyes and hair to match right from the start and not have to remove defaults from Volks since they glue the eyes in all their licensed and standard dolls.
Lastly, just a recommendation on which doll size to choose. I LOVE my DDS girls, they're 1/3 scale and they are insanely versatile in what will fit them and what's available. They're the same measurements as SmartDoll in terms of body, just a little shorter in the legs. As a result I've never had a clothing order that wouldn't fit them, or was too tight. They fit everything that a DD would have fit, plus anything that would fit a SmD. Pants are the only issue, and they're barely an issue.

Full premades are usually locked behind lottery or auction.

Most of what you see here are customs built from parts. Body parts are swappable within your maker/scale, so the head is the only real difference. If you go this route, find a head type you like, and either commission an artist to do a faceup, buy one thats already completed, or diy. Then pick out compatible eyes, wig, and then a base body from a maker like volks.

I purchased the doll directly from VolkUS. It seems that they've really dropped the ball this time though since it seems a lot of people are having issues.

Yeah, I know I'm sounding crazy for not contacting volks directly to try to "fix" this, but I have reasons, which I believe to be relatively sensible considering *my* situation.

I don't necessarily trust that I will receive a replacement because they can easily just say that I am at fault since I already opened the package so it is not in the original state of receipt. I've already been burned multiple times in similar situations to this one with other collectibles so I don't really believe I will have much success contacting the vendor directly.

Finally got my first doll. At that size and brand I expected her to be lower quality. And less squeaky.
Sorry for the bad photo quality.

I'd recommend double checking the measurements of your doll against what the outfit was designed for. Especially if she's AZO2 which I find have issues getting some of Azone's other clothing lines.

>> No.36554602

>>36553370
Depends on the outfit. Usually, as long as the materials can handle getting wet, just hand wash them in the hottest water you can stand to release as much dye as possible. If you have fine mesh bags for delicates and a good gentle cycle washer you can do it that way too. If you're ultra paranoid you can try vinegar soaking too, after a rinse and before a wash. After washing just hang to dry or lay out flat.

Same rules as human fabrics. Nothing suede, fur, synthetic fur, crepe, nylon, silk, wool, or anything structured (suit coats, ties, hats, dresses with pads or other internal structures) For items like these that you can't wash, check the inside of the garment and look for lining and threads. If there's a nice solid lining and the thread is a lighter color you'll be fine regardless of washing. You can also (and I recommend it whenever in doubt) use a stain protection garment. Volks sells full body ones, but you can also get partial ones for specific types of clothing to leave other parts bare. CoolCatCollection has a nice selection and they're pretty fast to ship. It's shiny or mimics leather: pleather, suede, maybe vinyl.
It's fuzzy or furry but cheap: faux fur or faux wool
It's fuzzy or furry but expensive: maybe velvet, velour, wool, still unlikely to be real fur unless it's a one-off from etsy
It's smooth but cheap: polyester or nylon, maybe rayon or bamboo
It's smooth but very expensive: possibly silk, probably still polyester or nylon.
It's wrinkly and delicate: crepe
It's stretchy: elastic or spandex
It's stiff and heavy: possibly wool, canvas, burlap
It look like jeans: denim
It's a basic cheap t-shirt, shorts, or socks: probably polyester or cotton, maybe a blend

There are more options but these cover the basics I think?

First see if it will stain in the first place. You should mostly only be worried about dark dyed fabrics touching the skin. Most outfits have some sort of light colored inner layer like a shirt. This is a good example of a dark outfit most likely not needing a wash, if you are careful with the exposed hands, due to the white shirt and inner lining
>>36535573

And instead of worrying about materials, just have some common sense and ask yourself if the outfit would survive the washing machine. Like with human clothes avoid/handwash/steam clean things like shoes, hats, silk ties/undergarments/delicates, coats, etc.

>> No.36559530

>>36559249
Her outfit's cute anon, good pick! And like >>36559435 said, dark colors are the biggest concern, black and red in particular. Stain protection garments (or stain protection tape) are always good to keep around -- I've had dolls sit in a gothic lolita outfit for months with no harm, and have dolls look like they got exposed to a broken pen after only a day of wearing something. A good place to spot test is the bottom of the foot, but I actually have some cheap spare parts I keep for staintesting.

>>36559435
Common sense? What's that? I'm pretty sure I've spent more on this batch of doll clothes than I have on all my own clothes over the last decade.

>>36559530
Yeah, I got mostly light stuff but I also got a few black and dark brown pieces that I think could cause issues. I'm averse to the body stockings and anti-stain clothes in general since I think they look awful, but tape for certain spots didn't occur to me.
>A good place to spot test is the bottom of the foot
That sounds like a good idea; I guess if something's likely to stain it'd do so pretty quickly? But could a stain on the vinyl end up transferring to a sock worn there afterwards? Though I suppose with it being the bottom of the foot it'd be easier to roughly clean it to get it out since I won't care if that area gets a bit scuffed.

As for this particular outfit, the photo hides it, but I'm thinking I should have probably ordered a white bra as well. From the store photo I didn't realise things poking out would be an issue. Still cute though.

The Goatguns arrived. I ordered the AR-15 and 1911. They're both pretty heavy as expected. The 1911 feels about the same weight despite being overall smaller. The AR-15 is a reasonable size for MDDs but the 1911 is too big, having a much larger grip that won't fit into the hands. Regarding the weight, the AR-15 is pretty much at the limit of what she can hold. The elbow and wrist joints are barely able to handle it, even giving out sometimes while posing, but it does seem manageable to an extent. Those joints also seem to vary in tightness as my other girl's wrists feel much tighter in comparison. They probably also lose tightness over time with posing. Unfortunately I don't think those joints can be tightened like the others. If they can I'd like to know how.

Trying to find that out. In my search, I found what I think is the first post Danny choo ever made about BJDs.

https://dannychoo.com/archive/en/posts/dollfie-dream

I thought he was referencing some anime with all of this but his rambling only circles back to his own blog.

As best I can tell, these guns might be made by the Y!JA dealer SAIMECS. There are also people making gun hybrids from Trumpeter-brand 1/3-scale weapons model kits.

Azones are good first dolls, especially if you're not too sure about the hobby yet. The only problem you'll have is that Azone 1/3 dolls are smaller than most other 1/3 dolls, so they are hard to find other non Azone brand clothes that fit.

>> No.36654067

>>36654016
Azone's dolls can be a little tricky to find outfits for due to their measurements, but it's not an impossibility, just an additional challenge. She's gorgeous anon, welcome to the hobby!

There's also a variant in white available if stains are a concern that I want to buy and mod into a Chii.

Can confirm, by the way. I have that fucker and his face is flatter than an old man's ass.

be honest, whats the most you spent on one doll?

>> No.36666890

>>36666724
In one shot? Probly $900 USD, which is a far cry from what some cost. That was for one doll and a fuckton of option parts, accessories, clothes, and the like, from someone leaving the hobby and honestly it was a steal, even if it meant I had to live on cabbage and beans for quite a while after.
