Spirits and demons cannot truly die. Their concept can be erased from existence, at which point they will no longer have a source of power, but until both their concept AND their current form are completely erased, they cannot be permanently destroyed. They will "regenerate" if their concept still exists, and if their current form still exists they can work to create their concept again.

If borders are completely removed from reality... All contrast will be erased. I'm not sure how a reality like that can work.

Control over shikigami is just her main power. Just like Reimu's is flying.

Because there's no "concept" to obliterate, nor can they be pinned down and permanently sealed like youkai.

Additionally, as youkai get older, they will often grow tired and sleep more often, presumably eventually going comatose while still being alive.
Kaguya and Mokou will be sentient until the end of the universe.

It's the same with Gensokyo. If Yukari just vanishes then all energy is lost to the great heatsink outside the border, so only Cirno survives.

If Yukari dies as typical, then all of Gensokyo is shattered and incinerated during Yukari's death throws.

Yeah, I'm not going to go with the whole "Yukari IS borders" thing. I'd like to think of her more as a meddler like Marisa, but on a whole other level.
But that's just me, so yeah.
