I think I started saving Touhou images around 2005 or 2006 and, I keep multiple backups so the chances of them being lost is practically 0%.

Those 2 last Youmu pictures have a particular meaning to me as they are literally my first unintentional contacts to Touhou artwise on Pooshlmer back in the day (I think the original threads can still be seen through archive.org).

I noticed that a while back. Simple art doesn't exist anymore. Even in some anime, there's more spent on stupid gimmicks and effects than the actual presentation.
You set up for a fist connecting, and then you end with a nuclear explosion after having a close up of a character's face in a static position for half a minute. That's the kind of stuff I'd see from null characters in M.U.G.E.N.
It's either that, or cell shaded art and abused chromatic filters.

That's true but the subjects of the picture are very clearly visible. The effects here are used to enhance Reimu and Marisa here whereas, excessive chromatic aberration and blur would be a distraction.

That being said, even though misusing effects is more common now than it was in the past, it's still uncommon overall. At least according to what I see on Pixiv.

Pretty obscure and unknown artist mostly famous for his Bakemonogatari OP tracing that got deleted from Nico the day it was uploaded. But I managed to grab his original upload before deletion (but it has been reprinted countless times since). I can post here for those who are interested.

Even tineye.com couldn't find those pictures, as they were so obscure.
