I don't understand the hate for K-On.

Is it just because KoyAni animated it?

I mean, it never really seemed like it was supposed to be serious-business or anything.

It gets hated for being too popular and "moeblob anime" I think.

Frankly I thought its comedy way better than Lucky Star's and most of the characters likable (other than Suwako), so I don't know what the problem is either.

I'll have to agree. K-ON surprised me in a bad way, I thought i was going to get something like Beck, and got Lucky Star season 2 instead.

While KEION surprised me in a good way, I thought I was going to get a poor, shitty cosporn, and instead I got an extremely well produced movie that had everything I wanted, from spanking to cockslap, and an actual yuri scene, I was sold.

Well, I was sort of hoping that the series would be focused more on the progression of a total beginner into a decent level player, but it was more or less just another high-school slice-of-life with some musical aspects.

I don't really hate the characters at all, and I can't say I really hate the anime just because I expected something else from it, but I thought that it had the potential to move on to much more interesting things.

Marimite has excellent character development. Then again it's only based off a novel series that's been running for over 10 years, so such a thing isn't too surprising.

Simoun had themes about the effects of war and religion on society (which even draw parallels to the modern conflict in the middle east) that were cleverly explained through a somewhat developed sci-fi world. Oh, and it had a very beautiful soundtrack and decent character development for the two main characters.

It's fine if you dislike these series (personal tastes and all) but I feel reasons like these are good enough to place them in my favorites list.

Anything else, my friend?

If you're going to nit-pick over fucking semantics, then you need to be told that to be fictional, something doesn't have to have a plot. The only requirement, BY DEFINITION (you dumbfuck), is for it not to be real. Now let the man have the perfectly sound opinion that Azumanga Daioh is more about funny gags and atmospherics than an overarching plot.

Some parts are obvious (like Jihad-tan suicide bombing it up) but others are not. I often wondered why the insane director made Mamiina die but it all made sense when the main characters pulled the missing man formation at the end of episode 20.

Fuck you, and fuck your stupid reaction images. Marimite and Simoun were both beautiful series that you could never possibly understand, as you'd rather collect screencaps with the vague pretense that your pathetic life has meaning.

>>3516269
Stop it with the passive aggressive bullshit, troll. You claim to be top calibur otaku who has seen over 400 series, yet you drop Kyoani shows, shows that single-handedly defined the past few years of animu. Not only that, the shows are GOOD, by any standard, especially so for those who like similar works of the genre. Sure the social commentary in Simoun was quite prescient and the soundtrack was good. But you didn't watch for that, and the fact that you post here is conclusive proof. You watched it for some yuri atmospherics, for a beautiful life you never never had, and most importantly, for moe~. Same goes for Marimite, which is probably the most moe~ thing I've ever seen, so much so that I fear that I desecrate its name just using the word. You bring up character development, but what is moe~, besides that? It's giving character development the very utmost priority, so that every little gesture and every little goddamn moment is put on a pedestal. Clannad, Kanon, K-On, Haruhi... These things involve the exact same aesthetic! And conversely, Simoun and Marimite embody the exact same self-consciousness, the exact same purpose of wish fulfillment! All you are doing is denying the things you love in the name of pretension. And for that, you are a filthy troll.

Pic related, it's something you've forgotten.

I don't dig yuri. I don't find this type of stuff to be attractive or "moe". I've said this before; it's personally just not my cup of tea. I am a dull boy who only finds /h/ attractive and I find very little types of 2D to be moe. My brain is just wired quite strangely.

>>Clannad, Kanon, K-On, Haruhi... These things involve the exact same aesthetic!

And that's exactly why I didn't enjoy those shows. I don't particularly care for that aesthetic. I have nothing against those who do though. IMO Air, Clannad, and Kanon were lackluster adaptations (just like every other VN to anime adaptation though) and I personally don't like Tatsuya Ishihara's directing. The art/animation is pretty good in KyoAni stuff though (mostly because they don't treat their animators as bad as other studios do in the business). And K-On and Haruhi were things I personally didn't like in either of their forms. I can see why people like Haruhi though, as my younger brother is a big fan and has told me a lot about what goes on the light novels.

If anything thinking about this all makes me respect Simoun a little bit more, since it was an original work that wasn't based on a novel, game, or manga. Marimite got off to a rocky start, but in the end it turned into a pretty good adapation. But it also had 4 seasons to get it down right and work out all of the kinks.
