So when the Higurashi anime was being aired what was /jp/'s reaction to it?

Was it like Umineko, with everyone going LOL ANIME SUX READ VISUAL NOVEL?

>> No.3478236

No, because the visual novel wasn't translated. A few people probably did, but they were in the minority.

>> No.3478252

/jp/ didn't exist back when first season aired.

I think he meant the userbase, not the board itself.

OP here. Really? I didn't know that.

Okay then this is now a general Higurashi thread.

"/jp/" is a stupid way of referring to the userbase, and really only outsiders say that.

In which case >>3478236
nailed it.

/jp/ didn't exist. But back then, most people that are currently in here probably had played Tsukihime. That's about it.

English VN translations only really started taking off after 2007.

I remember the drama on AS, fev moonspeakers were crying teers of blood. Current Umineko drama don't even compare to that. Fun times.

I remember getting tricked into downloading jokesubs on /a/.

It was pretty funny and I watched though it all.

/a/sshole here. I have not the Higurashi visual novel, but the anime is one of my favorites.

I don't think as many had read Higurashi when the anime came out, so it wasn't as big a deal. Seems like a lot more people had been reading Umineko already when the anime started airing compared to that.

Sugoi sambunairu, o-pi.

>> No.3478656

however, the general idea of the show when it was shown was " an anime filled with killer lolis". Clearly it was flawed in a way...

>> No.3478666

I only watched it recently after reading Episodes 1-4 of Higurashi and I didn't enjoy it very much. But I understand that its like, 6 arcs crammed into the first season, so I'm hoping the VNs will be substantially better.
