Share yours tips, stories, or OC.
Let's spread art propaganda and turn /jp/ into an army of NEET artists.

Also need tips on drawing, beginner practice. And tell us your story from being completely clueless to being a capable artist.

I'm not really sure how many months it will take, but I'm hoping I become decent enough in 6 months for me to be able to buy a good drawing pad. But for now I'll have to practice with pencil & paper. Biggest hurdle is what I should draw to improve or how to practice on it.

I wasn't planning to show it off this early, but would /jp/ be interested in a Touhou MMO? I've been working on a classic RO server with various Touhou modifications on and off.

I'm not really sure what direction I want to take it in though. The main thing is that there wouldn't really be a lot of choice for customization if each class is a different character due to sprite limitations, and I'm also not sure how far I should take the modifications, right now I'm just working on replacing job classes, but I'm not sure if I want to do stuff like replace Poring's with yukkuri or so on. The other thing is that I'm not sure how many people would even play, an MMO with a dozen people on would be a little bit lonely.

I'd also like to eventually replace the sprites with my own art, though I'm not a very good artist at the moment. It's been something I've wanted to do for a while now.

Haha just draw bro.
You don't need guides, tutorials or help. You just have to draw bro.
No, I actually read a lot of books, guides and tutorials custom tailored to beginners who can't tell their head from their own asses but I'm too much of a petty selfish asshole so I'll just tell you to just draw bro. Just draw and you'll be good bro. Just draw. Because we don't live in an internet era where there's a perfect guide for newfags to learn with so you'll just learn by just drawing and magically know what you're doing wrong and what you're doing right and what you've got to fix and improve by just drawing bro. So just draw.

I started with pencil and paper and when I tried using a tablet I hated it. They make them ‘pressure sensitive’ but it seems like none detect when you’re using the side of the ‘lead’ of the pencil.

If you get used to using pencil properly, be sure to try before you buy once you start looking at drawing tabs.

Here is a sketch that I made the other day. It's my character but I won't talk about her here.

The way I used to practice or just draw in general when I started was just trying to make full illustrations every time. I'd use many resources such as video tutorials and references until I managed to finish my drawings and I was satisfied with them. I think this helped me improve with each drawing that I made. Do this only if you feel it might help you get better.

Youtube channels that helped me in the beginning were markcrilley and mikeymegamega.

I'd recommend medibang paint pro (free) for a drawing software. Other programs are probably good as well but I've had the best experience with this one.

There's not much to my story but I've been doing this for about 3 years. I haven't been drawing daily or regularly at all so don't worry if you can't or forget to draw too often.

I hope this helps at least a little bit, good luck!

one of the biggest tips I can offer with art is learning how to make shapes flow together as well as learning how the line of action works. the line of action is a good reference for posing as it simulates the movement of the spinal cord. the human body mostly consists of spheres and squares when it comes to standard physique.

facial structure can be done with many different kinds of shapes like triangles, circles, hearts, rectangles, whatever the fuck

really the most real thing I can say as an artists is that we have no idea what the fuck we're doing half the time idk man i got into art simply by being a sonic fag

The server is based off of pre-renewal, so all the EXP rates, job stuff, tutorial, etc are all just like classic RO because I liked the difficulty and general requirement for cooperation it entailed. The client's based off a 2015 one.

Still not sure what I'll do yet. It's basically a niche within a niche within a niche if it's something I wanted to keep to /jp/, since I don't think old MMOs are as popular as they used to be. I think it's fun and a good idea on paper though, especially because I could script custom events and such. It'd be pretty sad to put months of work into it and be dead on arrival though, so I've been putting a bit of thought into it. The thing about something like this is, without anyone to play it with, it's a bit lonely.

There's an old adage in that if somebody offers you something for free, you're just "paying" them, or otherwise doing something to their benefit, in a way that's less obvious.

Since the server software is all being run on somebody else's hardware, that means they can see everything, and technically have access to everything - chat logs, IP addresses and more. You're basically putting it in good faith they won't nose around your stuff. Sort of like how some offbrand email-hosts will read others' mail for fun. Not really particular to google but any VPS, really. Something like that probably isn't too likely with Google, but you'd still have to worry about stuff like whatever information they're collecting or if their security ever gets compromised.

Just learn how to draw lol. Pixel art isn't that complicated by itself, but drawing is. I started by just copying whatever Guilty Gear's style (both the old one and the new Xrd one) was doing, but then kinda developed my own, unintentionally.
>How did you learn to animate
Go get a copy of Animator's Survival Kit, and make it your bible. Nothing more to say, it'll teach you all the basics you need. Hope you like walking animations.

>Pixel art
If you want to do good original work like that anon posted, you probably need to actually get good.
If you just want to animate small low-resolution sprites that'll take up a fraction of the screen in a game, you can cheat by copying animations that others have done and experiment a bit to get the clothing, hair, hat, or whatever, look OK.
Not saying that you should skip on fundamentals: you gotta practice to get good, and you gotta get good to create good stuff that people will want to play. But, if you just want to create some cute and simple games for your own enjoyment, you shouldn't let your lack of skills get in the way.

That explains everything, I had no idea what was going on since I didn't care much about LN's.
Reminds me of when the second /jp/ themesong was made around the same time, someone maliciously started spamming it onto every other board and eventually reddit in order to turn everyone against it. I've seen many people act like this before and I don't know why, must be demons.

I don't see that all. The /jp/ board-tan has the problem a so many board-tans. Usually being made in the right after a board's creation by an artist who never intends to stay after the first week, either made to fill an arbitrary obligation to make a board-tan or to have a place to push their own ideas nobody cares about. The /jp/ board-tan, iirc, was for the former reason, made at the last second for a flash animation that was being made around the time /jp/ was made. It was never intended to have a long shelf life, it seemed like a one-off joke.
The second /jp/ theme seemed to have been made by someone who was an actual lurker and knew about the board and its culture and cared about /jp/ subjects enough to know how to use vocaloid and have a (very loose) grasp of Japanese.

This. I prefer trying to draw in a style that would be considered an old style, due to resembling popular artists' styles of the 90s and this makes me a bit self-conscious about it, but at the same time I also realize that there's no such thing as a style tied to a time period, just artists that have popularity at certain times and those who copy it or draw similarly to it.

I have a feeling similar to this, but rather than "pure tumblr", it's more like "maximum overweeb" where the characters always had giant sweatdrops and anger marks, turned chibi then unchibi, constantly had textboxes with arrows pointing out obvious facts, and things like that.

Not entirely sure what you mean by that, the length of the entire animation in seconds is just number of frames x the framerate. Doesn't really have anything to do with the flipper.
>>33813980
In AE the previous/next frame buttons are pgup and pgdn which you could program the Arduino to do, although personally I've found that AE is kind of too slow to respond if you hit the key multiple times in a row. I've always just used the mouse on the timeline.

Here's a google drive link, it should hopefully have enough information to make your own.

I know, but I want a program that lets me measure the time and timings of an entire animation
Lets say I want to make a 5 minute animation, and I want some keyframes to happen at 2min mark, 3 min mark etc

You should be able to do that in literally any animation or video editing software I've ever seen (flash, csp, ae). Create a 5-minute long comp then head over to 120seconds and add some frames.

it helps immensely if you look at the art you're trying to imitate, and then just deconstruct it part by part sort of
One of the best things I did was look at a speedpainter to understand how they drew a human body so quickly, and then I learned the basic technique for that. Though it needs practice to be perfect of course, but I feel that knowing "the tricks" should be pretty motivating

be prepared for whatever trick one has built up to be collapsed when they try to apply that trick in a slightly different way
not a bad thing, all things considered, if they use that opportunity to know and eliminate their weakness.
