Many sociologists have said that if extraterrestrials were to land on Earth, they would attempt to communicate with whales or dolphins before humans, given their complex language systems and overwhelmingly peaceful behavior and intelligence. No great whale is known to kill anything but krill and bait fish, and certainly not a member of its own species. They truly are magnificent, beautiful creatures from which man could learn much.

That said, am I wrong to be angered beyond belief by the fact that the Japanese are poaching and murdering whales in an international marine sanctuary for bogus 'research' purposes, to sell their flesh for a profit, and the only people that will do anything about it are nonprofit environmental organizations?! Despite the fact that they are clearly violating the International Whaling Commission, as well as other international laws and moratoriums on Antarctic exploitation, the international community has turned a blind eye to the slaughter. Whaling is a barbaric and totally unnecessary practice.

That's not the full extent of the issue. 85% of ships caught illegal fishing other country's Exclusive Economic Zones are Japanese vessels. The Japanese seem to think that just because something swims, they have to devour it in such unholy quantities as to force species into near extinction. (examples: blue fin tuna, red snapper, whale shark). They've already almost eaten everything in their own waters so now they have to steal from the territorial waters of other countries. This is a horrid example of human greed and apathy.
