Touhou Power Levels

Before I got into Touhou, I've always seen it being Hyped as a Universe strong enough to rival Marvel/DC but after having just recently finished reading some of the office releases and playing most of the games, I have to say that, while I had a lot of fun with this series, I'm kind of disappointed in the power leveling department. Their Abilities all seem kinda wage and the characters seem to bluff a lot about how powerful they are. Now what I'm wondering is if I've been missing something or if what I've seen ware just fanboys overhyped thier Waifus!
