Thoughts on replacing the buttons/switches on a phoenixwan/svse5 with sanwas/omrons?

While I get that you can definitely get by on the default daos and honeywells, I play a lot of fighting games and sanwa buttons definitely feel a lot nicer than the cheapo stock buttons you find on cheap sticks. Is it that much better feeling with rhythm game controllers as well? Cause if it is then it seems like an easy purchase.

Also whats the difference in pressure between honeywells and omrons? I'm guessing the omrons are closer to whats in the arcades, whatever they have.

Omron switches are definitely worth getting. I originally used Honeywells for my SVSE5 and FP7, switching to Omrons was a huge improvement in my ability to play higher level charts and how it felt to press buttons.
As for sanwas, they're probably not worth it unless you can get them for cheap. I've heard that Samducks are a good alternative that don't cost as much as Sanwas, but I haven't used them myself.

Simply by being gudder. DJMax skill ceiling pattern wise is not that high, so getting FCs shouldnt be that hard. The timing windows are pretty large too. The only issue is the lack of a proper offset system, or even just early/late indicators, but you can train yourself to account for that.

Don’t even bother. I played pop’n on dualshock for years and I completely regret every second of it. I had the money for a controller, I should have stopped being a pussy and just bought one. When I finally got a controller I had to start from (old scale) mid 20s again because none of my skills transferred at all. Either get a controller (if you don’t have $300 to blow you should really be working on that instead of playing rhythm games) or at least play a game actually made for dualshock like djmax respect.

I wouldn’t recommend playing this on dualshock. If you have an arcade stick, mapping triangle/square/cross/circle to the bottom four buttons and the slides to the top four is a good alternative to buying a divaller or one of the crappy hori controllers.

Why not dualshock? Is there some kind of quirk that makes it suboptimal when emulating the arcade? I ask because i play ft on ps4 and the ps4 controller is so nice to use.
Honestly, anything is better than using j*ycons for megamix. The switch pro controller is pretty nice but the thumbstick being above the dpad fucks me up because im used to the thumbstick layout on dualshock.

I mean, the charts in the game are clearly made for the arcade button layout and not the dualshock. I played ft with a ds4 for a while too but I find the game much more comfortable to play on four horizontally arranged buttons with my fingers rather than alternating my thumbs between the face buttons and d-pad.

160 BPM 12ths are equivalent to 120 BPM 16ths, which average 7.5 frames apart at 60 FPS, so the notes actually alternate between 7 and 8 frames constantly, which is annoying to time. At 120 FPS, it's a consistent 15 frames, which is why the SPL was suddenly MAX'd on lightning cabs.

depends. People get way better at DDR today because modern charts are a lot better in terms of ergonomics and sync. If you really commit to playing a few times a week, but real sessions where the goal is to understand how to play and move your body, then you could be kaiden in maybe a year and half or two

If by this you mean how the charts are constructed, yeah probably. Too bad the actual audio sync from track to track is no better than it was back on 5th Mix. I also greatly enjoy having to step on the panels 6 frames before the arrows reach the targets so I can get a Marvelous.

When the notes are aligned to frames in IIDX, not only are they visually staggered, their timing windows are shifted around in the same way. The more rounding error there is, the more you have to rely on the visual placement of notes instead of just rhythm. 120 FPS allows for notes to be placed closer to their intended positions more consistently, which is why it provides a noticeable score boost for upper level players.

I play on energy drinks too sometimes and it just makes going into autopilot a lot easier, basically turns me into a buttonclicking bot without even noticing, which is a pretty nice feeling. Maybe it's placebo, sure, but it works, so you're led into drinking more often, and the habit can turn into a real addiction really easily. It must have gotten very bad for you, if you really can't play at all without them.
I would recommend to either embrace it and just drink them costantly if you can afford it and don't care about living past 40, or to stop drinking them entirely and force yourself to play even if you play like shit, until you will eventually be used to play "sober" again

Using ridiculous speed mods so early also inhibits new players' ability to actually read patterns (both rhythm and arrangement) or plan their movements.
