How come Japanese contemporary composers aren't that well known? I mean you have Nobuo and all those video game composers doing great music but noone will put them on the same category as modern composers like Gershwin, John Williams, Bernstein, those guys that wrote Butterfly Lover's concerto etc.

>> No.3197515

Linkin Park is pretty good too.

>> No.3197519

They don't have any good contemporary composers.......Toru is the only one that can be mentioned and hes shit.

>> No.3197523

Nobody takes video games seriously unless they grew up with them. Same with anime. You have that guy that did the Giant Robo soundtrack churn out something that was like the Wagnerian Grand Opera version of anime music but nobody but Giant Robo fans will know who he is. At most people will just know the main theme from Super Robot Wars.

Well, there's Yoko Kanno and Joe Hisaishi.

>> No.3197536

Japanese contemporary composers don't really have their own style. They just kinda copy and paste shit from other people which sounds good...but not really their own thing.

Every night before i fall into a blissful state of unconsciousness I don a touhou mask (marisa, usually), insert a buzzing vibrator into my rectal cavity, and proceed to imagine myself being roughly violated from behind by Zun as marisa.

I would put the guy that composes Takarazuka music up with Bernstein but I don't think the world will appreciate a guy that wrote music for lesbian shows.

>> No.3197560

Nobuo sucks, i mean, the style he got is just keep repeating every single game his music comes to. Yatsunori Mitsuda is hella better, where the hell is he?

This. Westerners just don't take this stuff seriously.

Unless if they grew up with it, of course.

Haha I remember just randomly burning a couple tracks off the Dragon Quest Symphonic, Final Fantasy Orchestral Soundtracks and giving it to my cousin that is as professional conductor. He loved it and he guessed that they came from a movie or a tv show with a high budget and I told him it was from video games. Surprised the fuck outta him.

Fuck yeah, Mitsuda.

Also Michiko Naruke.

>modern composers like Gershwin, John Williams, Bernstein

Those composers are not modern/modernist composers, nor are they contemporary. I don't think anyone worth their salt would even consider them serious composers.

Welcome to post-modernism. It exists everywhere.

The truth is, contemporary composers are not particularly well known anywhere, at least not beyond a very small circle of people.

My video game composer waifu. Along with Michiru Yamane and Miki Higashino, of course.

I'd consider Gershwin a serious composer.

How is John Williams, Gershwin and Bernstein not serious composers?
