I seriously don't mean to come off as trolling here, but why should I care about the Naku Koro Ni series? Stuff like Higurashi, Umineko, etc.

I watched all of the Higurashi anime and was bored out of my mind. The whole thing comes off as a shitty J-horror anime (note: all J-horror is shit-tier) with an inappropriate artstyle to match (I'd probably enjoy Higurashi if it actually took the steps to make everything fit properly instead of moe-moeing shit up when it should be grimdark)

A lot of people are hailing Umineko nowadays, so I thought I'd get /jp/ to educate me on why I should (or shouldn't) get into the series. The main dude looks like he belongs in Phoenix Wright, so I feel like I'm already not going to like it.

Umineko is good. If you have enough time to sit down and power through it, it's a fun experience. It's greatest flaw is that it is somewhat hard to get through at parts and the length of which, but once the real action starts it becomes very hard to put down.
Yes the art is terrible. I don't mind it much myself though. The music is also top of the line, perfectly creating the light hearted and happy moods but also the gruesome and depressing ones. Its a fun ride, and a must see in my opinion.

You really seem to be suggesting as if this is the case, and I cannot help but assume you are approaching this terribly incorrectly. It is not /jp/'s job to attempt to break through misconceptions you have about the VNs due to your own bad choice of interpretations.

You say you wish to know if you should play Umineko? Perhaps you should educate yourself? Summaries of Umineko are quite easy to find, and since you seem to enjoy wasting time I can guarantee there's quite a good fews of reading before you'll even come across the first killing.

On the topic "Tell me your opinion of the game so I can form my opinion" you won't get a single useful reply anyway.

Figure out what you like first. Then ask if a certain game would be of that type.

Simple example: You like NTR, you name a game and ask "Is there NTR in this?" and you should get a good answer.

This whole "Tell me what games I like" theme that keeps being posted on /jp/ is the reason we seasoned browsers call them troll threads. Because nothing good comes out of them.
