Cause new versions (5+) come with some much shitty opt-out extra installs and on-by-default reporting, that I just don't like the idea of installing them at all. And the program switched ownership to some chinks since 5+, I believe.

What I recommend is 4.46.1.

It still offers shit when you install it and you need to turn reporting off after installing it, but well, there's less of it, so I'm okay with installing it in a VM. And I dunno if 4.46.1 works on Windows 8 or 10.

As a bonus, a game disc image that won't work with WinCDEmu at all is likely to be an old game anyway, so doing everything in a Windows XP VM will help to begin with.

Played some Soukou Akki Muramasa today and did the epic scene after the kids first encounter Kageaki and then there is the epic fight between the Robot spider and the 劔. Some vocab really killed me and reading this thing without a texthooker isn't that impossible. I do wish I used one for the history lessons with Suzukawa though because I didn't follow all of the historical relations and how the Tokugawa government did a mistake and gave reign to the rise of the Rokuharas.

I hope that isn't super important otherwise I gotta load a save.

Misaki's after story in Nukitashi 2 is really weird. It's like 80%-90% the characters making a visual novel that's an excuse for meta-jokes about nukitashi itself (i.e. "we can't find an ejaculation sound effect that sounds good" "just play a machine gun sound when MC cums instead!"). It felt like they didn't really know what to do for her after story and she didn't have clear points still needing to be wrapped up like the other heroines so they just gave her a bunch of meta jokes they thought were funny and didn't have anywhere else to put.

I mean, the special options are just highlighted for you. Presumably the real reward is meant to be getting to hear the funky Intimidation or Persuation lines, or perhaps your inner satisfaction of being a guy who can just tell someone to do something and they'll do it.

It's mostly worldbuilding that doesn't really get mentioned anymore. The most important takeaways of the lessons are the difference between the two types of tsurugi and the fact that Rokuhara are dicks. Knowing the basics of the Japanese power divide between the shogun and the royal family should be all you need on the history side of things, aside from some googling whenever they throw in an archaic rank or title of course.

The first part can get handwaved as hair growing darker as you grow up, since it's a thing that happens.
And regarding Reiji he and Kyoko had a proper conversation regarding their relationship. Reiji can't give up on his paranoia/issues regarding Touko so they decided to put an end to it, since what Touko wants is an actual relationship and Reiji just can't do that.
However, with Stella he has a non-romantic but emotionally fulfilling relationship where they don't love each other but they keep each other company and fuck from time to time, since that's about the most he can do considering his issues.
kns3 is more mature than most VNs regarding relationships with broken people.

Are you retarded? The more heroines there are the higher the chance that at least some of them will appeal to you. If you have 10 heroines and 2-3 appeal to you then you might pick the game up for them. If there's only 1-3 heroines and you don't like any then you'll skip the game = no sale (not that you're paying anything other than McDonalds with your $15 allowance). The same logic applies to design diversity. If every heroine has huge tits and you don't like that you'll skip it, if there's at least 1 small tits girl you might still read for her. Vice versa for a cast with only small tits and a token fat girl. Having a cast with all breast sizes guarantees the most sales.

Too many heroines clearly creates other problems. Time and resources are finite. A writer/small group of writers would be less able to create quality heroines and scenarios if they are forced to write for a million different heroines as opposed to focusing on just a small group.

It is what it is. Most people would rather read something with many heroines where only a few are good to them and the general writing is not great than something with few heroines that don't appeal to them at all. Not that the writing will be any better with fewer heroines, it's all pretty much the same. If you care about writing then read plotshit.
I'd say it's more of an issue in moege when every route is written by a different writer because then you get some who just suck in general, some who want to do something SPECIAL, some who make heroines suffer, and some who are decent. The end result is a mixed bunch of various degrees of crap with some good sprinkled in. And chances are that good writer is assigned to a heroine you don't like so tough luck. So it's better to have a single writer or at most 2. Anyway it still remains an issue because you'll get games full of great heroines but the writer is trash, so it's either suffering through it or ignoring the heroines. A loss either way. You can't be too picky with games so just read whatever. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you'll win.

muramasa on the backstory part and it was getting really good just before, my only real complaint is kinda at this point for each arc its been pretty obvious who is gonna die, and who is gonna be the "bad guy". feel like i could see it coming as soon as i saw the character art. though it doesnt make the story or themes not compelling, but im kinda biased to things that surprise me (which it also has in many ways)

The chunni fights are sort of at climaxes of the story so it would be kind of strange if you really didn't enjoy them at all. Anyways, assuming you like plotge at all, I don't see how you wouldn't enjoy Mahoyo. It's better written than the vast majority of this medium and pretty unique. Just finished Tsui no Sora remake. Yasuko's route was really good and Ayana was great in every scene she appeared. It feels like more plot elements were inadequately explained compared to Subahibi though.
What exactly is Ayana is this version of the game? In Subahibi her being one and all and acting as Scaji's insert into the story makes a lot of sense but I can't see anything here that explains what Ayana actually is and why she has the powers she does. If she and the 観念 monsters are delusions, then why can they spread to Yasuko and then even to other loosely related side characters in the blink of an eye without really doing anything (like the Yakuza henchmen who start cooming to Ayana's delusions before getting any context on who or what she is)? The philosophical ramblings about how thoughts and reality being the same and part of the same infinite is nice but doesn't serve as an explanation. Feels like I missed something.
