Is there a major difference between osumania and dj max and is it worth $25

>> No.31274002

>>31270941
>fully keysounded
>has much better charts albeit with an overall lower skill ceiling (which wont matter unless you're around the high mid tier in other games anyways)
>ample amount of charts across all difficulties for all button modes
>8 button is pretty much unique
>flashy MVs
>mission mode
>fade-in/-out mods that can serve their purpose as lane covers
>random mod

And other minor flashy stuff. It feels more like a game and less like a client software. Worst things about it are the larger timing windows (no options to customize these, but neither does osumania), the lack of proper offset settings and the always online DRM. If the latter is no deal breaker, its well worth it unless you hate the music or are already a high tier kb player, but if you were you probably wouldnt ask for an osumania comparison anyways.

Bad wording, since its much inferior to the proper ones. Stepmania to DDR is a bad comparison because Stepmania has all the features DDR has and then some. Meanwhile compare osu!mania's lack of features considered absolutely fundamental in iidx (e.g wn/gn, lane covers and random).

Hello /jp/~ *breathes in*
I want to (attempt to) create a decompilation of an early beatmania IIDX game, probably RED or HAPPY SKY. I am fully determined in myself to get this done in some capacity (eventually, no promises on dates :3). I'm chosing those games because of personal attachment to the themes, the fact that they are extremely small compared to modern games, and they run on any PC I throw at it. However, there are a few things I am curious about:

1) Would there be any real-world benefits to this other than it being a "cool thing to have"? i.e are there any hidden secrets that have yet to be reversed from IIDX games?

2) How would Konami respond to it? I plan on sharing it on various websites when it's complete, and HAPPY SKY is 15 years old anyways.

3 (long shot)) Does anybody here have any debug builds or PDBs of the earlier games (i.e before SIRIUS, preferably before GOLD?)

4) Does anybody have any raw unmodified drive images of these games?

I know certain communities are extremely toxic when it comes to publicizing information about these games, so that's why I chose to post this here rather than on those forums.

Thanks~

By doing nothing special. Just keep on playing normally, assuming you dont have shit training practices to begin with. Don't grind charts, keep things varied. Play a variety of difficulties from stuff you can AAA to the stuff you can barely or not clear, though the main portion should be in the middle. And as said by the other two, dont be afraid of taking breaks. Sometimes you're just in shit shape and need to recover, forcing yourself to play with shit form won't do much good. You should gradually improve in the stuff you can already clear, and at some point you'll have sessions where you'll just feel ready try and push harder against the wall. Do it, regardless of whether you fail songs or not, as long as you feel the energy to push just keep playing at your limit. Rinse and repeat and at some point one of your heavy push sessions will be a breakthrough session.

I can't speak to ebay specifically, but whatever the generic buttons in the dao controllers are work fine. They might have been a little grippy if pressed on the edges initially, but I just wiped a thin film of teflon grease around the edges (I bet even some face grease would work, sounds gross but it's a colorists trick for the trackballs on the control surface) and now they're just fine.

I dunno how good that is compared to other people's progression but I'm really happy with it since my goal has always been just to be comfortable with 10s and I'm slowly getting there.

Looking to upgrade my IIDX and Pop'n daos as well as the thumb buttons on my turbocharger but I'm not sure about a few things Namely whether or not these lamps are necessary or if I can just swap the ones from my dao buttons over, as well as whether or not I should be getting new springs.
The Pop'n controller has 100g omrons and 100g(?) springs stock, so as far as I can tell I'll be able to reuse them just fine or is that wrong? It feels pretty heavy as it is but I don't know what arcade setups are like, and it could just be dao buttons being trash.
The FP7 has 50g omrons and supposedly the springs on 40g(?) which should also be fine as far as I can tell?
And lastly the turbocharger also has 50g omrons in all the buttons with unknown springs, but they all feel super light to me so I was thinking of replacing them with 40g springs for the thumbs and maybe something a bit heavier for the main buttons? This is the one I'm most unsure about since I can't really find information on what setups arcades use and I've never played on a real cab to compare for myself.

Dao LEDs will fit in IIDX Samducks. Virgoo ones may be a bit loose or too tight, but you can adjust the clamp.
IIDX Samducks feel and sound the best with the included springs and switches, but Dao springs should work fine.
For SDVX, 60g springs would probably be optimal. 100g work too, and if you want different weights for BT/FX, the thumb buttons should probably be heavier.
I think arcades hover around the 50/50 mark, with Corean ones going lower and mixing in 25s, but don't quote me on this part.
Pop'n I can't comment on.

Because it results in what should be evenly spaced notes instead looking like >>31768159. This is why the lightning model cabinets resulted in enormous score gains for toprankers. 120 FPS results in much less rounding error.

At least IIDX displays the notes frame aligned, so you can adjust to the weird spacing if you need to. pop'n polls input once per frame, so it essentially has frame aligned timing, but the note spacing as it appears on the screen is basically lying to you.

Because most of the core contributers only play IIDX and doesn't even bother with other games which leads to most topics going stale aside from (rightfully) complaining about Osu when someone occationally brings that up.

Sort by score and play the songs at the bottom of the list.

>> No.31791771

assuming you play IIDX:
just challenge yourself
hard clear stuff a level below where you're currently normal clearing (or a tier or two below if you're at 10s and above). aim for new normal clears, assisted easy clears are babby tier to get. if assist easy helps you feel better about your progress, then by all means use it but realize that you can get absolutely reamed throughout a chart and still receive a clear using it. I don't think giving yourself that false sense of achievement is necessarily good for actual improvement.
for scoring, build low level timing fundamentals up and move on to trying to achieve AAAs that are just out of reach. don't dwell too hard on songs where you get AAA-10 or something. constantly sprinkle in gimmick charts you're bad at (ie. scratching, soflan, jacks etc.). grinding charts in general is bad for progress unless you feel that you can definitely raise your current record by a lot.
if you're at an even higher level than this, aim for ex-hard clears on tier 8 - 12 12s (or full combos on any 12 if you're a complete masochist although honestly I don't really see the point unless you're planning on becoming a ranker). perhaps raise your AAA+s to MAX-s and MAX-s to 98s and 99s
if nothing works and you still don't feel like you're making any progress at all, take a short break from the game, sometimes it takes one to get back into the right mindset
I'm sure some of these fundamentals apply to games other than IIDX as long as they're bemani

>GITALLER overpriced
>DTX400k doesn't feel the same as AC
I was working on S ranking 9's and above and suddenly this shit happens.I took out a practice pad that I've been using since high school and my drum strokes feel real fucking rusty. Gave up after 2 minutes. Got my acoustic guitar from my closet and had problems playing chords.

Shit sucks. should I give up on GITADORA and move onto IIDX or something else that's easier to replicate at home?

Guitarfreaks or Drumania?
For Drummania you can just buy a generic 8 piece electronic drumset with MIDI to play at home.
I suck at guitarfreaks but playing is nothing like playing a real one.
Konami offers a $16/month liveservice if you don't want to play data or use DTXMania.

I live in California. Our governor has had all entertainment venues closed, including Round 1.

My closest R1 is in Vegas, but that's a 5 hour drive, 10 round trip and I can't commit to that amount of driving when I used to go to R1 twice a week.

>> No.31801074

>>31800573
just do it man the 5 hours of driving is prime steering wheel drumming practice time so you can FC at Vegas R1. an FC means you won't have to go so often.

How does the DTX400 differ from DTXPRESS?

>> No.31802996

>>31801911
2 big difference. first it's the construction of the pads. AC pads are thicker with a higher quality rubber, designed to be out in public. Second it's the placement. The base 400k stand/legs are too narrow and don't allow for AC layout. I could invest in a better kit, but if I upgrade to something like an Alesis turbo mesh, then the dimensions of the drum heads are different, made of different materials and still can't replicate the custom layout of either an XG or White cab layout.

It's honestly a lot of little things that amount to a big change.

I'm the guy that makes Project Heartbeat (a Project DIVA clone on Steam).

I'm thinking of adding the ability to make 3D PVs like DIVA, this is something I've thought of for a while.

My idea was building an animation retargeting system so that any model if properly configured can be adapted, with built-in support for some popular skeletons.

I thought it would be nice to officially support VRM for characters and BVH (or something else that can be easily exported from blender) for animations, this way users can just plug in their existing characters.

Whatever the animation format is, there would also be the ability to retarget that, so you could just export MMD animations or whatever from blender.

What do you guys think of this idea? Do you think it's worth putting effort into? I would also have to build tools to animate stages and cameras and etc, but that's just a lot of work, not really something that's particularly complicated.

Obviously rest of the game takes priority, but I think it would be something nice to do.

>>31716354
It really depends, Project Heartbeat runs on OpenGL and Vulkan, so if your hardware is vulkan capable it probably will run well.

Only concern is video decoding, PPD AFAIK uses window's built-in h264 decoder which chances are is using hardware decoding on your machine, PH uses VP9 which is decoded in software.

It's hard to tell how well it will run for you, so my suggestion is you buy the game, see how the performance is and if it doesn't work well just refund it, that's what Steam refunds are for after all, I don't mind.

>> No.31804222

>>31804176
BTW keep in mind framerate in PPD cannot be trusted, PPD has an FPS limiter and will limit the FPS to whatever the playing video's FPS is (so if you play a 30 fps video the game will be locked to 30).

Peppy just has a different business model, I don't like donations or microtransactions, only other thing I plan to offer in the future is for big official song packs when the initial song list is done. I'm pretty sure on the long run a f2p + donation system would be better but I just don't like it.

You have to pay for artwork, music licenses, servers, food etc
