This isn't about the theme of the board. It's about the speed of it. /jp/ used to be a slower board and that went on for years. Until the early 2020. The reason you guys were put into single threads was to not disturb the speed of the board. There's simply a large number of new users that overflow /jp/ this year.
I don't think it has happened to any board at this rate so far. This is the real problem. A huge amount of new users, suddendly being cramped here. Even people on generals dislike this and most of them use /jp/ for a specific general, or two. It's not about touhou, hololive or that kind of thing. Fast boards are always worse.

Yeah, this isn't really about Touhou vs. /incel/. Unregulated Touhou character threads were technically just as bad but at least it was just one fanbase. V-tubers aren't going to put a dent on Touhou threads, but they're both going to push the generals with actual content out of the board and turn /jp/ into Touholo waifufaggotry central.
