Alice is my favorite
Because I like her personality, how she is based on Alice in Wonderland, her themes, I have always been interested in doll magic, her Extra stage is my favorite stage, the game she first appears in is my favorite Touhou game, she's cute, and many other things

Fujiwara no Mokou.
Not the fanfic Tsundere Mokou who's either a vengeful pyromaniac, I mean the canon one. Her personality is perfect. So cool and out-of-the-way. Retaining her feminine figure, yet adding a coolness to it. Not to mention her personality. Very human-like. She's a bit forceful, but not in that tsundere-ish way. Also, staying out of people's way and she LIKES it. It brings a sort of mystery to her, what she does in that forest and all...

The canon Mokou, the one from IN, she LAUGHS when she finds the teams get to her. She finds it amusing someone is in her Forest so late at night! Whereas the fanfic Mokous would be either appear angry or depressed. Mokou's purpose was also perfect. A forest Guide. And her reaction to the trial of guts at 2 AM... She laughed at the idea, and even made a couple jokes to herself about the teams! She's perfect.

To me, Mokou comes out as a complete ranting hardass in-game. She doesn't make very many funnies before the battle. Actually, most Touhou characters are pretty serious before fighting, but crack jokes and puns when they lose. From the dialogue, I wouldn't even have guessed that she enjoyed any company at all, much less guiding humans outside of the forest.

She doesn't have ANY of that joking personality in-game until she loses, and she almost comes off as a bit unhinged and almost seems like the type that would spend a thousand years wandering around a bamboo forest ranting about Kaguya.

Seeing her being so silly in Bohemian Archive and liking Kaguya BLEW MY MIND, especially since her profile said she detested Kaguya. I thought when they said she enjoyed being alive, it was because she enjoyed seeing anguish in Kaguya's face, not because they have some sort of "Hourai Being Bond" with each other.

People will read and pick up the dialogue differently, to the point where things can seem inconsistent between different sources. Trying to determine the "canon" personality of a Touhou is sort of weird. You can usually get a general feel, but depending on how you see their manner of speech, how you interpreted the translations, how much you incorporate other official material... It can be pretty different from each other. Saying "they correspond well" or "they keep changing" only means something to yourself, not everyone.

In most cases, you can make a clear cut between canon and fanon. But when it's as something as vague as the personality of a somewhat insignificant character... I'm not sure how you can be so quick to say that eveyone else is wrong because they think that Mokou's got a few loose screws, or that she's self-loating. When two sources seem to contradict each other in Touhou, some people will incorportate both somehow, but if the sources seems to depict her in completely different manners, most people will pick the personality they like. It's not really a big deal and doesn't affect anyone. It's only when they try to set that as the clear-cut presentation for what's 100% canon is where problems can arise, as it's possible that the EXACT SAME SOURCE can be used to both support or work against the argument of if it's canon or not. Naturally, there are some hardcore concrete canon details, but this is more for the wishy-washy stuff.

Calm the fuck down, try to see how they could have eventually came up with their interpretation, be open to new ideas, and have a decent Touhou discussion instead of a shitstorm. Even if their idea is quite out there, if they can back it up and present it reasonably well, there's nothing too wrong with it. Why should anyone care if it's different from their idea. You guys fucking love Umineko, what's wrong with the Devil's Proof when it comes to Touhou? A lot of touhou doujinshi are enjoyable not because they have their characters presented exactly as you like, but because they presented their ideas WELL.

There's nothing wrong with saying, "I dislike moe-moe NEET Kaguya." There's a problem with just saying, "I only like canon Kaguya, fanon Kaguya sucks" with no other background info, because it's vague as shit. Yeah, you'll usually mean the common fan-joke personalities that float around, like tsundere Alice and NEET Kaguya, but fanon encompasses so much, and canon can be so vague... It's best to just put in some detail about what you exactly mean.
