She didn't order him to his death though. That was Archer using Independent Action and staying behind, ignoring Rin's order. Rin just ordered him to buy them some time. It was sort of implied that she wanted him to follow them after they had gotten out. Archer, however, was taking the extra step to show how GAR he was and give them more of a chance.

And noticed that after Archer died, Rin withdrew from the group and didn't talk to Shirou and Saber much afterwards. And when she DID talk to Shirou she started talking about Archer.

I think they were closer in Fate than the other routes. She was honestly opening mourning him there.
