Okay, newfag to VNs here. You could say I'm as naive as Shiro here. I like some of the animes based on VNs and I've been thinking about starting the games, and I was wondering if you guys could help me.

What's the actual gameplay like? Is it like the old PC adventure games where you collect inventory and solve puzzles? Or do you just talk to chars and get them to do stuff? How hard is the gameplay?

I know simple (elementary-school level) Japanese, how good does your literacy have to be to play these raw?

Is there a order you should play games in for series like Higurashi? Do you need to play that before Umineko?

Also I'd like to know of good VNs that haven't had anime adaptations.

That translation is even worse than the original. I guess hospitals shouldn't bother trying to save people who are "badly injured" then, as "nature"(*cough* other filthy humans and their dangerous implements) has decided they should die?

You click click click till youre out of prana and nutrients. Then you die

>> No.2901227

1. Ok.

2. Click and read, sometimes pick a choice.

3. A lot more than you have.

4. Higurashi is in neatly ordered episodes. You don't have to play it before Umineko, but you should.

5. Tsukihime.

VNs aren't games.

>Implying that Shittyhime didnt have a vastly superior anime adaptation when compared to the original Twilight rip-off VN

VNs are illustrated part-audio eBooks with occasional decision branches (think: Choose Your Own Adventure).

>> No.2901239

It's called a visual novel for a reason, you click and read stuff while geting some choices here and there. Don't bother with the raws at your level. There is usually a walkthrough you can follow to find the correct order. Ever17

This is how your typical VN works. Well, the basics at least. It doesn't go into the core mechanics of simulated communist proliferation.

So any good VNs that don't have an anime adaptation(yet)?
