Please tell me about Vocaloid, /jp/. I have a friend who is into it and I don't really get it at all.

I am not a troll.

You are now.

So you're a goblin? That's even worse!

obvious troll

Actually, I'm serious. We don't share as many interests as we used to, and he's always watching videos or listening to albums that I just don't get it.

I gave up through a tenth of the Wikipedia article so if I'm missing out on something, please tell me.

I'm quite serious, which I know is hard to believe on 4chan.

It's software that sings whatever lyrics you type into it.

Google banned you?

>> No.2747062

It's a series of voice synthesizers that people who can't sing use to sing for them.

Vocaloid is an anime about cute little boys. Pic related.

I gathered that much, but what's with all the characters? I take it this is just fan-made stuff?

I know who Miku is - due to the videos -, but that's about it. I've got another friend who's really into the ones that look like twins, but I can't think of their names at the moment.

Fake pop stars that are slightly less fake than the ones the record industry whores out.

I thought that was enough of an indicator. Sorry for prompting discussion on an imageboard, then.

I'm not that dense, tripfriend.

Ahaha, that sounds like one way of putting it, considering what the actual software is for.

>> No.2747092

The characters are cute girls and boys meant to be the person behind the voice. Their only job is to look pretty on the boxes.

>> No.2747100

There are different fake voices. Each one has a name and corresponding character design.

So then people like to take the characters and run wild? Makes sense, but then I don't know why it'd be so popular, either.

I guess it's just not something I'm all that interested in. I'm more of a video game playing shut-in than anything else, you see.

>> No.2747121

>>2747100

I see, so it's a fandom revolving around the music and the cute characters? Not usually my cup of tea, though I think Miku is kinda endearing, based on what's been shown to me.

Welcome to Touhou!

Ahaha, said friend was trying to get me into that too. I played the sixth one (I think it was) and normally I'm all for shmups, but nothing I read could prepare me for that kind of bullet hell.

I understand it's more about bullet dodging than being a shmup however, but I still got bored with it fairly quickly. I had some doujins given to me and I was just confused.
