I don't know anything about Japans legal system but USA easily has one of the best in the world. If casuals would stop becoming lawyers it would help progress it even farther.

This.

>> No.2740456

It's not. The legal system in Phoenix Wright is based on a dystopian future where people are assumed guilty unless proven innocent and all cases must be solved quickly because there's too much of them.

Did you skip over the introduction?

I'm not even sure if it's set in Japan either.

Law of Japan was historically heavily influenced by Chinese law and developed independently during the Edo period through texts such as Kujikata Osadamegaki, but has been largely based on the civil law of Germany and France since the late 19th century.

Japan recognizes greatness

Ninety-nine percent of criminal defendants are convicted in Japan, and almost all are convicted following their own confession. Prosecutors tend to bring charges only when they have a signed confession from the accused, and such confessions often occur after long questioning by police. Although defendants have a right to counsel, it is generally not possible for them to obtain counsel between their arrest and indictment. This makes it difficult to judge the true extent of criminal activity in Japan, since many possible criminals refuse to confess and are thus never indicted.

Depends which localized version of the game you're playing the US' version hints at taking place in somewhere in California, most likely Los Angeles. The JP version hints at taking place somewhere in Tokyo.
