I would let her choose between dresses and "boy's clothes" (jeans and t-shirt/sweat shirt).
My youngest sister is given this choice and chooses the latter all the time. My "mom" tries to make her wear frilly dresses and shit but they get messed up when she climbs trees and rough houses.

You find your own children cute/adorable at first so that you bond to them. I don't exactly find other people's children that adorable, but you know, I think that is our nature. The birthing might be one of the grosser things I've ever seen. Didn't go well for my wife either, they were about to call off the natural birth and do a C-section instead to keep her from hurting herself or the child.
My wife is doing well, she's very protective of our baby. Everyone wants to hold her, but isn't being allowed to. That might change, who knows. She spends a lot of time reading to our daughter or singing her songs when she's not sleeping.
