For some reason, not sure if being harvested by Komachi would be neither better nor worse than the classic Western grim reaper.

So, you've died, and if you believe in some sort of afterlife you're likely expecting someone to come pick you up. So either you have the grim reaper - skeletons = death, check. Dark robe = oooh, scary, check. Silence = solemn and serious, check. Sure, it's horrifying, but it's somehow appropriate. It fits in with the expectations.

Now imagine if you've been expecting that, you're instead faced with... this thing. Likely half a head taller than you, colourful, sparkly milky way patterns and stuff, red hair, way too old for twintails, boobs dangling out and a big creepy grin. And she's all like "All aboard the Titanic, I've ain't got all day".

I always picture Komachi being very serious when she's on-duty.

Yea, although she occasionally goes absent without leave, Komachi is quite serious as a person.
But she's definitely not silent.

Pretty much her whole dialogue in PoFV reads as one long piece of prose.
