2607550 No.2607550 [Reply] [Original]

The events of the Careless Monday isn't simply news of a tragic event, but symbolic secret desire to create one common event basis for all within the society. Despite all of it's attempts at isolationism, Japan has been subject of an onslaught of rapid cultural changes be it western influence, consumerism or religion. Some major event must shake up what is described in the show as the "dense atmosphere in Japan," or in other words, their lives which are swept into the lifestyle of climbing the ladder of success in an unending pursuit of the phantom of the future.

Desperate for certainty, the Otaku culture seems to rally around the fixed-- eclectic details and understanding of obscurity offers the Otaku certainty in an anxiety ridden world, and as such, Japanese society as a whole can relate to an escape from the constant flux of culture.

Saki Morimi's affinity with ground zero and the White House represents Japan's own vapidness, only a spin-off of American culture, itself an island where obsession with the unreal, idols and material items, are a mainstay in popular culture.

The Otaku lifestyle wishes to escape, and to isolate from the constant uncertainty in the age of anxiety, to be one with the eternal. With the only certain event in life being death, the Otaku wants control, to be totally immersed into the wants of the mind, neglecting all else, in essence, becoming one with God.

Fascinating.

Go back to /a/.
It is that way.

To be an otaku is quite the opposite: we escape reality by embracing "vapid" material culture.

I haven't followed anything this season, or in spring. Has anything decent aired?

>> No.2607621

The preoccupation with the future causes a dissonance and the Otaku clings and consumes into a very small facet in order to exert a sense of certainty.

The standard social norms like family and religious tradition are giving way and as such, anime and popular entertainment are filling the gap.

Probably the only thing worth following this season.
It's not saying much, and it would probably be better taken in a single viewing, but I recommend it. Well done, and it's off the beaten path.

Eden of the East
Guin Saga
Natsu no Arashi
K-On
Cross Game
Shin Mazinger

All of those are worth checking out, though a lot of it depends on your taste in genres. For example, you probably shouldn't touch K-On if you don't like moe~ slice-of-life.

Eden of the East - great mystery plot, interesting characters, amazing art/animation, etc.

Phantom - a good visual novel adaption for once. The story's good, great music, animation is above average and Ein and Zwei are interesting characters (though others seem fairly shallow at the moment).

Cross Game - excellent characters (best in an anime in quite a while) and worth anyone trying despite it's baseball setting (it's honestly not very significant).

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (remake) - better than the original. Very fast paced and high production values.

Tears to Tiara - worth checking out if you've played / have any interest in the visual novel (or Utawarerumono). Decent so far. Some pretty good episodes but nothing amazing / nothing shit.

Hayate - I've only ever been on /a/ a couple of times but I wouldn't be surprised if it was popular there. I can't help but enjoy it myself and the new season is much better than the first.

Skips all the things that made the original series endearing.

The slice-of-life genre without moe characterizations is practically non-existent in animu. You think Manabi Straight, Hidamari Sketch, or Sketchbook Full Color's are any different from K-On?

Show been getting downhill after the first 2eps with emo saki and 20k cocks. And come on, a website that is supposed to save japan? Lets hope the show pickup again. It got a good potential though.

Eh, I'll wait to download it and all of the stuff I figure will be decent this season at the end of this season. There's a few shows from last season I want to watch first, plus I'm going to busy in the near future upgrading my computer to something not as shitty as a 4600i Dell whose best attribute as a desktop is that it has a 160 GB internal drive,

Doesn't help when you want to watch video in HD format but can't because your video card is a piece of shit (geforce 5200FX AGP x4. God I need a PCI/PCI-E video card but my motherboard is too old for a decent and cheap one)

>> No.2607917

>>2607889

Eh, I have 500 GB external that I'm going to salvage into an internal HD one of these days as my computer acknowledges that it is an external drive (can even ID the brand) but refuses to grant me access to anything on it due to something in the casing frying.

>> No.2607933

>>2607917

That happened with me when I salvaged the hard drive from my sister's computer after something in the case fried, but I think it had more to do with the fact that she used Windows ME and I assume that it anally fucked the hard drive somehow. It was a pain in the ass to try and salvage things file by file so I just formatted it and used it as a second hard drive and it ended up dying a year later anyway.
