The anon who played Celenaria a while ago here. Finally got around to finishing Inganock.

Overall this feel like an improvement in all aspects. I’d say the setting was the strongest part this time as well but even moreso: it’s actually a lot like cyberpunk – arcology city, body enhancing implants, hackers, runners – however it’s all instead powered by steampunk or magic and populated by fairy tale stuff. Tonally it's darker as well. The story itself felt much more focused with few central mysteries, instead of Celenaria where the heroines just randomly meandered around with much of nothing explained towards the end. There’s also several nods to the previous game here and there – nothing huge that’d be required for understanding Inganock – but they make Celenaria a bit more palatable in retrospect since you have some additional context coming from that. There’s still some stuff that’s left up in the air, but in Inganock it feels like the main plot properly concludes, in comparison to Celenaria’s rushed feeling.

Even H-scenes are better, in the sense you don’t want to skip them because they often tell actual story as well (mostly through inner monologue), in stark contrast to Celenaria’s loads of flimsy sex. On the other hand, they’re not really erotic in the slightest, which might be good or bad depending on your stance on plotge and H-scenes. Text wise the game is a bit different as well: the most noticeable aspect is the near constant use of repetition, but the writer may have gone a bit overboard with that. There’s so many minor variations, for example of the staircase scene, so it gets a bit silly to the point that even when there’s a big change in some repeated scenes it doesn’t have that big of an oomph as a result.

One complaint I made of Celenaria was the lack of explanation for the setting apart from vague fairytales, but Inganock actually remedies that point as well because this time the in-game interludes, in addition to more vague stuff also have portions where the game goes out of its way to clearly explain essential keywords and concepts. The game’s official website has several helpful lore entries as well. Really, so far I’m interested in the overarching lore most of all, f.ex. what the hell the 秘本 are supposed to be or where they're from (Randolph + one lore interlude mentions 赤色秘本 in Inganock being related to its state), or if there's any underlying connection behind the mutations turning humans into races from Celenaria, but I’m afraid to go browse user made wikis even for stuff about the games I already played because I might have already accidentally spoiled myself for the next game by viewing ふるきもの entry when looking for Celenaria related stuff. My own fault, really.

One issue I had was that I wish they'd given Ati more screen time and chemistry with Gii. It feels like most of their development is crunched into one chapter towards the end. Also one downside of playing these games back to back is the reuse of VAs - especially for main characters - which apparently is going to be the case with the next game as well. And a larger number of music tracks would've always been welcome.

That said, I think that the game giving you the 'almost any girl you choose can end up being the hero of the story' bit that built itself up from the first into the second was super charming. I don't know if giving the story two games to work with was truly worth it in the end, but as far sheer pornographic content for the cast goes it's nice.

Finally starting shin ringetsu, the amount of blatant shilling of the main heroine is insane, her face appears on the install screen, game icon, title screen, save screen, and the first hour of the VN tells of this dead girl that's supposed to be MC's fiancee, and suddenly never mentioned again and don't even appear as a romance option. I know this is supposed to be a remake and the new heroine needs to sell herself to the old players of the previous game, but come on, you can't just infodump one heroine early in the VN then suddenly locking her away and expecting the player to stay invested in her while acting like she doesn't even exist until the player somehow able to can unlock her route.

I just finished rasen kairou the other day. It's kind of weird because overall I'd say it averages out to mediocre, but within the game there's dramatically varying levels of quality. If you particularly enjoy mindbreak/rape/sadism/etc., you might like this more than I do, but the main plot line is pretty fucking dumb. In a nutshell, sensei gets a fancy new computer and """accidentally""" (it was really a setup but whatever) finds some edgy site call Eden where a bunch of guys abduct and rape girls (and film it of course) according to some rules and make them slaves. Later, these Eden people end up abducting girls sensei knows and he gets caught up in. Depending on your choices, you end up with a mindbroken, used-up whore at the end (or some ends in this scenario let you be alone). There's some initial shock factor, but after that wears off, it gets really dull. It's weird though because during this scenario, sensei has trippy, strange dreams about his past. These add essentially nothing to the main story and basically only exist to give some tension/dread before the main plotline starts. The sad thing is that saeki's dreams are actually more interesting than anything else in the story. They are genuinely creepy and unsettling.

Some of the H is fine though and the protagonist's scenario doesn't take too long so it's not too big of a deal, but the real killer is the "multi-angle" shit. You get to play the scenario with the viewpoint of the other characters. This is a mixed bag, but mostly it's just boring. Kano's perspective is completely nonsensical and not really interesting to read. Even the "I was beaten/raped by my father in a dungeon" flashbacks get old. Youko's perpective is predictably mostly self-loathing and self-pity (i.e. boring). I guess I didn't expect that Amano actually raped her way back in the day when she was still in Hokkaido but that reveal didn't lead to anything interesting. The saving grace here is Aoi. The writers and narrative were obviously biased towards Aoi as she's really the only pure girl, and I think they were successful. She's pretty moe and her mindbreak/rape/etc. does genuinely convey someone pure falling from grace. The other two girls (three if you want to count Hibino but she's just a dumb slut and barely even a character) were already had broken/fucked up pasts so I didn't really think there was much to see while they were getting gang raped or whatever. I guess you can't have everyone be a pure maiden, but they should have thought of something better.

The weird part, though, is that the last two scenarios are dramatically better than the rest of the game (minus sensei's trippy dreams). If you weren't a retard, it's blindly obvious that Shion, Aoi's little brother, sent the request to Eden to have Aoi get raped. You unlock his scenario near the end. The motivation is retarded though. He's a siscon (understandable), gets jealous of Aoi liking sensei (also understandable), wants to make her his slave (still understandable), so he asks a bunch of weirdos on the internet to violently rape her and beat her so she can become his (is this some cuck shit what the fuck). Anyways, Shion's perspective refreshingly doesn't tread the same ground as before and it's about how he gets to the point to send the request to Eden's webmaster. Alternatively, there are a couple of other endings where he doesn't be a shitty brother and resolves on something else. Surprisingly pretty good but the gay sex part with senpai is weird.

There's also an "extra" scenario which is the final thing. This doesn't have any of the stupid Eden plot. It's just light hearted romance, and honestly it's way better than the rest of the game. There's also a sideplot where Shion crossdresses and LARPs as Aoi (this is from one of Shion's earlier endings where he resolves to become Aoi) and you can fuck him. Later it ends with you doing Aoi and Shion on the side. Wild. The pure route/branch/whatever with Aoi is very sweet and a nice way to end it.

So yeah weird game with uneven writing and a dumb plot. I definitely wouldn't recommend it in general, but at least it has some redeeming points.

Does anyone know how to crack 夢みるエゴイスト? It shows a message that on first startup it needs to authenticate. Apparently the crack is included. There's a 解析素材 folder which includes a 2kb "_EGOIST.exe" and a 17mb "EGOIST.exe". The big one doesn't do anything and the small one opens the game window(?) for a split second then closes.

I think I tried cracking this a couple months ago already and just gave up, and now accidentally redownloaded it.

In sharin the mc saw a girl shot to death in front of him first thing without any explanation and it just passed as normal due to the setting.

Some things like MC's personality quirks may also seem random or weird, but there's explanations for those. What may seem fucked up or idiotic at first turns out to have meaning later on. It's all part of the journey.
Sharin no Kuni does suffer pacing issues and some things make no sense, but what author doesn't have flaws? It's still a really good read.

Not sure what exactly you're looking for or if you dropped those games early on, in which case you should pick them back up.

Honestly, Sharin is something I can't blame anyone dropping. Maybe not after 3 hours, but the game stretches and especially the middle arc is just a snoozefest, and not particularly good.

G-sen, for all its weirdness, didn't have this issue for me. Sharin I could never bother to finish, also because of the cast being uninteresting. For its time, Sharin was definitely big. But I think a big part of that is also the edgy part of it. Similar to how for example The Witcher games are popular. This works for a certain group, but doesn't for others. And even though G-Sen had a.. "darker" atmosphere with its setting, the characters felt like they didn't behave as extreme. Might have something to do with the writer being a little older then as well, or just a different style.
Regardless, point is, Sharin is definitely one of the worse example of VNs having issues with pacing and just not getting to the interesting stuff, also because the cast isn't too good during these slice of life parts. Reminds me of Ryukishi stuff in that regard. I never liked his slice of life.

After that event Kenichi arrives in town and starts his test. He gets to know the 3 girls that he's going to try to rehabilitate, their every day life and their obligations and troubles. That's when things get going, but SoL is always present to give a sense of normalcy before shit hits the fan. And that's when the pacing usually slows down to intensify the sense of dread and hopelessness.
You seriously must've dropped it during the early SoL introductions and didn't even get to the beat-down which is like in the first 1-1.5 hours. As others said you're in the wrong medium if you can't make it through this.

Interesting. I thought all the scenes at Touka's house with Kyouko switching from bitching to nice and the telephone drama got tiring after a while. The checkpoint scene was also a bit weak. I really like Touka but her route dragged on even more than Sachi's which at least felt like something (or rather someone) was on the line and had an emotional impact. Touka's route lacked that for me until the dinner climax.

Natsumi on the other hand I couldn't stand from the start up until the reveals with the caretaker, the hug scene etc. Her past flashback and the cliff scene were also powerful. I came to like Natsumi and when she finally smiled in the dungeon I just cried. I do agree that her route was essentially the first part/lead-in to the final route.

And to be honest I thought the climax arc was quite flawed as well. The time until the execution was too happy and spent leisurely. Then the speech dragged on forever and while the content of it was good, just get to the point. The Hozuki part was great, the dungeon not so much. And the last part was also mixed.

Despite pacing issues and other flaws I'd still give it an 8.5-9/10. There's just something about the writing, the characters, the emotional rawness, and the story ideas that's excellent. Also have to mention the fantastic BGM.

Yes I played it 100% with the uncensored art and the only problem was the messed up menus and a translated image in one of the endings.
And that's because I copied the entire layer.arc file, thinking about it now and looking at some patch someone uploaded for it I think this engine supports putting new files directly in the directory and it overwrites the packaged ones, so if I extract layer.arc with GARbro and copy only the h-cgs to the installation folder of the jap version while leaving the original layer.arc it should fix those problems, haven't tried it yet though.

I thought Tetsu to Ra was pretty awful. Instead of using the knowledge he gained to manipulate and corrupt the girls after getting close to them he just captures and rapes them till they break.
