How does /jp/ feel about fanon interpretations of Touhou characters?

Does it make your inner (or outer) nerd rage?
Do you like it because of the fanwork it generates?
Do you hate it because it distorts the characters you love?

I'd like to know what you think.

Everybody loves fanon.

Especially those idiots who whine about one true versions of characters. Somehow what they think is "true" is usually directly contradicted in official works, but it never stops them.

>> No.2604789

>Does it make your inner (or outer) nerd rage?
Only if it's really poorly presented. I'm relatively open to representations as long as it doesn't seem too outlandishly ridiculous or anything. Or if it is completely outlandish, they can back it up with something. Wait, so I guess I'm not too open to interpretations.

I never liked romantic pairings between the cast, but I liked GERANIUM. On the other hand, that one doujinshi with Mokou giving birth to Kaguya was just too fucking strange for me. Nothing to really nerd rage about though, since I have plenty of ideas that disregard some parts of canon, or are just disagreeable in general.

>Do you like it because of the fanwork it generates?
I don't know. It's interesting. I'd like to make at least one doujinshi myself.

>Do you hate it because it distorts the characters you love?
I don't know. I care somewhat. I don't like hentai doujinshi much because I can't see the cast acting in that manner, or using their magic to turn their female bits into penises. So, I suppose I dislike it, but it's not like it's very difficult to avoid. As long as it's not infesting any topics I make, I could care less if other people want to wank off to the Touhous.

Fanon interpretations generally are retarded so I mostly ignore them. Reminds me of any discussion I have with any anime fan about any anime they like, most of their opinions are pretty much crap. Only thing it's worth is all the random artwork and crap it produces.

I'm cool with most interpretations as long as they are well done. If you want to enjoy touhou you have to be open-minded, to think one's view on Gensokyo is the only valid view is pretty idiotic.

Perfect example for me is Kaguya, Mokou, and Eirin. I very much like the idea of Mokou maintaining a pointless grudge for several hundreds of years, still thinking like a child in that aspect even though she's been alive for so long. I also like the idea of Eientei remaining enchanted under Kaguya's ability, maybe not being completely hidden to Gensokyo, but at least maintaining some eerie aura by having all the object inside stuck in a permanent state of eternity.

I think the most enjoyable topics are the ones where people just state their interpretation, and while there are some refutations about the validity of it, overall, all it takes is for them to accept that it may not be 100% true to canon or tradition, and it never evolves into a full-blown shitstorm.

My favorite Touhou's evil twin has it right here.
It doesn't make me rage at all. The idea of any creative work is to provide speculation on an situation from a given perspective. Both that perspective and the situation are up to interpretation.
I've never really encountered fanwork I dislike. Fanwork generally is born out of creator's positive feelings involving two+ things. You just incorporate those positive feelings and you do nothing but gain.
It doesn't really distort anything, it mostly adds.

I like some fan interpretation, dislike others. It depends on the character and how she's interpreted. Straight-up canon Alice needs a little bit extra, a little of the right spice, to make her interesting, but typical fanon Alice goes way too far towards making her into a moemoe nervous wreck, which is also boring.

I went to Yoshinoya a while ago; you know, Yoshinoya?
Well anyways there was an insane number of people there, and I couldn't get in.
Then, I looked at the banner hanging from the ceiling, and it had "150 yen off" written on it.
Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots.
You, don't come to Yoshinoya just because it's 150 yen off, fool.
It's only 150 yen, 1-5-0 YEN for crying out loud.
There're even entire families here. Family of 4, all out for some Yoshinoya, huh? How fucking nice.
"Alright, daddy's gonna order the extra-large." God I can't bear to watch.
You people, I'll give you 150 yen if you get out of those seats.
Yosinoya should be a bloody place.
That tense atmosphere, where two guys on opposite sides of the U-shaped table can start a fight at any time,
the stab-or-be-stabbed mentality, that's what's great about this place.
Women and children should screw off and stay home.
Anyways, I was about to start eating, and then the bastard beside me goes "extra-large, with extra sauce."
Who in the world orders extra sauce nowadays, you moron?
I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to eat it with extra sauce?"
I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour.
Are you sure you don't just want to try saying "extra sauce"?
Coming from a Yoshinoya veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, extra green onion.
That's right, extra green onion. This is the vet's way of eating.
Extra green onion means more green onion than sauce. But on the other hand the price is a tad higher. This is the key.
And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable.
However, if you order this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the employees from next time on; it's a double-edged sword.
I can't recommend it to amateurs.
