Well, for me that trick gave me a profit on all the units purchased at level 1 and subsequently sold at a much higher level. You still lost money if you bought and sold after level 11, so it was a temporary influx of money.

Oh hell yeah. Wish I'd caught the screenshot of my wining Arcade Lunatic finally but I clicked the screen by accident. Did it with the Scarlet Devil team. Bought all my units lvl 1, ended up getting my Chinas to lvl 9 and my Sakuyas to lvl 8 before the end, lost no books.

I used them all, got all the others to lvl 6. 20 Meilings, 10 Sakuyas, 10 Pachys, 5 of the others. That allowed me to move my Flandres to the opposite side of the field in case my Chinas were busy to divert melees or ranged. Same with Remilia if there were flights coming at me and my Sakuyas were busy. Pachy for bosses Having few numbers made it easy to upgrade.

And if you use only 2 types, you have enough to counter all other types and can upgrade them a few levels higher.

I'm guessing too many Sakuyas. The cost of upgrades became so restrictive I couldn't keep up with the enemy levels but I was trying to guard the entrances without having to move girls. I finally started throwing money into alt characters because I was bored when it became apparent that I was dead.

Lol on me. I meant too many Reisens. The cost for upgrades became too restrictive. I put money into other girls for lols when it became obvious I couldn't keep up with enemy levels.

No, I didn't.
Once you get the charm/heal/kill machine running the game plays itself.
China is there for defense and guts, she's just an exploding wall.
Tewi is there for luck, she raises trigger chance on other specials. She also evades hits like crazy due to it.
Eirin has a healing aura, which is % based, a % chance to instant kill, and a personal healing boost.
Yuyuko is there just for her possession, which is a % chance to convert hit enemies into allies. But they don't normally heal. But Eirin heals them.
You end up charming piles of enemies including bosses, and all of their auras/bonuses/etc all pile up.
