Read the definition of collectivism, what countries are collectivistic, and some articles on Japanese school bullying.

However, my personal interpretation is that this small piece of art is an allegorical criticism on how Japanese society is so against its country's mental health system issues as they, literally speaking, don't have a comparable system as that of the U.S. or so, thus the bullying by abandonement, the inherent embarrasment of being associated with someone who is mentally ill -especially as a JD and under-, and the eternal struggle of going on in life as this girl continues to smile regardless of what is going on with her life which, of course, it is a false impression of optimism and such related mindsets given the stigma attached against those who do not show such behaviors.

You can have collectivism AND take care of peoples mental health, which is ultimately for the good of the collective because you have more people who integrate properly once their problems are resolved, really resolved and not enabled or glorified like we do here. It's more Japanese honor culture than anything else that causes their problems, they don't WANT people to seek help even if it's destructive to them, their family, and their peer groups.

Honestly I think both are equally bad. It's good that mental health here is normalized so more people can get the help they actually need. But at the same time, we tend to nurture and enable victim mentality and that helps to foster certain mental illnesses as well like NPD and BPD.

While in Japan if you have a problem with that you're just shunned and tossed off like garbage. Your family will be ashamed and angry that you're making them look bad instead of being genuinely concerned. Yes that happens in the west too, but is way more common in Japan. It's just what happens you have a primarily shame-based culture.

No no, I didn't meant it that way. I just mentioned those words in order to give that other anon some ideas behind the writing of that small manga so he can think of something on this by himself.

I completely agree with you that collectivism -the kind that doesn't have capitalist ulterior motives- is a must in today's world, though.
Things are starting to get out of hand now, and the next big thing is a huge protest against ICE and related agencies that control immigration which will absolutely fuck up the entire job market and, consequently, the American economy.

The girl is very mentally ill. I don't fully grasp the symptomatology, but the girl clearly has thought disorder. Thought disorder refers to ideas being very loosely associated; you can see thought disorder in the girl's tangential speech, and particularly when she starts speaking incoherent strings of words. Thought disorder implies psychosis, which is present in psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. I suspect that the girl's memory issues are due to dissociation, but I'm not sure whether that's dissociation, or whether that's likely some other brain issue. Maybe somebody who understands dissociation better could elucidate that.

Someone in that kind of condition in real life should be hospitalized, or at the very least, on some kind of rigorous out-patient psychiatric program. The only people in that kind of condition who are walking around out in the world by themselves are the homeless -- or Terry Davis (who eventually did become homeless), but even he was more lucid than this.

I don't care what culture you're from -- if you were to encounter someone like that on the street, you would very quickly distance yourself from them. Unless you have first-hand or second-hand experience with such mental issues, they would be very foreign to you. You would not be able to predict the behavior of people with such issues, and thus you would categorize them as dangerous. You know how when you walk around downtown and you pass by some homeless people, you'll almost without thinking put a little extra distance between yourself and them? Maybe you'd even take a detour across the street to get to where you're going.

In addition to the "danger" of being in close proximity to such a person, in this case you have the substantially increased difficulty of having meaningful communication with the person. You can't have a meaningful conversation with someone if they can't remember what you say and their train of thought constantly derails itself. Maybe if you perceive the person as a research subject. Or you're a mental health professional.

I don't see this as a critique to the stigma of mental illness in Japanese society; the mental illnesses depicted here are very serious, and the reaction of societies -- and the individuals within the societies -- to people who are this seriously mentally ill are ubiquitous.

I know what you mean, but whether because of my raising or my own experience with thought-disorders, I always felt that I wanted to help people like that. My main frustration wasn't one of fear, but that it was so hard to get them to respond in an intelligible way. In general I always wanted to help people, especially mentally ill people. I'm pretty misanthropic now but more because of average people than because of strange people; I still feel empathy for mentally ill people although I'm also convinced that there is no good ending for people like that.

Personally, I don't have enough experience to be able to say that these people can't be helped. But I can say that the layman isn't able to do anything. The best the layman can do is not to demonize these people, to try to understand their experience, to have realistic expectations, and to have some empathy. Unfortunately, that requires a certain degree of understanding of mental illness and the issues surrounding it. Regrettably, it will be a while before that knowledge trickles down into secondary education and everyone has a rudimentary understanding of mental illness.

I like mentally ill people. They're endearing. They're understandable. I don't understand how anyone could be sane in a world like ours. Mentally ill people are fun to be around. I'd rather be in a room with a schizophrenic throwing tables or screaming about freedom of speech and conspiracy theories while throwing things than be in a room with normalfags. That's an extreme example of behavior, but it serves the purpose of illustrating my level of tolerance. The girl and her problems in that comic are endearing and sensical, I'd want to be her friend. It makes sense why someone would develop those problems, and problems like it. I wish everyone in the world was clinical levels of mental illness. The world would be more worthwhile to live in.

Schizophrenia is pretty insidious. Even medicated and lucid no one is going to want to be around you, it is still a very lonely existence. Holy shit, this is harder than that one Finnish ESL /fit/izien, and 16 years of age is too young for someone to have a mental illness similar to Nao-chan.
From what I read reading carefully on that OP's last post, I have a hunch that the OP of that thread got heavily sexually traumatized as he denies his attraction towards his sister, yet he continues to put an emphasis on his sister not taking a shower (smell fetish), being wet all over her body (similar to the oiled body fetish), and how his sister had to wear tight pants and a sports bra (skintight feiths) as well seeing his sister have a form of nipple/cunny orgasm given how his sister got sexually stimulated on those parts by swimming in a particular way that made her feel good and, most likely, without realizing it.
Given this key idea, I'm 100% sure this thread's OP and his sister come from a very, VERY conservative family as they literally don't know anything about erotism, masturbation, orgasm, etc. as he literally doesn't know how to describe his sister appearance other than the oter "attraction towards her" which implies that OP is thinking of a romantic attraction towards her which, of course, he doesn't have it, but he, indeed, has a sexual attraction towards her given his quite descriptive prose about her sister.

Additionally, I feel there comes a second hypothesis on this undiscovered lust that this OP had as he continued to describe how seeing her little sister do the "put her hair up but she wasn't allowed to" and the "so she did to her hair like what I see when I go down to the YMCA and see where girls pretend to pull their hair back," implies that this OP probably has already seen the bodies of young girls his age before, thus, by this underwater test of some sort, it prompted him to have even more lustful, indescribable thoughts of those girls at the YMCA and, most importantly, her sister, which he, at the time of writing all of those post, probably has a whole lot of guilt in him in a similar fashion to how some men who come from conservative, Christian families tend to have some form of guilt after masturbating furiously to some hardcore porn, or so.

tl;dr that OP had incest thoughts and new fetishes without knowing what are these

Those were basically made to be shibboleths sometime in the mid 2010s.

For whatever reason, /jp/ attracts an exceptionally particular mentality while also having a low tolerance for things which deviate from it, even if it is more topical in /jp/ than other boards. So really it's less about whether the actual content, or whether the poster is actually a newfag, but more just a gatekeep. Not saying that is good or bad, just how it is.
However, as much as people complain about generals, I think they mainly arise from people being aware that general threads for their topic are poorly received by /jp/ at large (or the loudest voices), but the topic is less appropriate on any other board as well.

There's little ambiguity about it, so I can only see him being unable to see the relevance of those details himself, being under the belief that those details would detract from whatever point he was trying to make, or perceiving those requests as trolls/haters.

Really, time just got it in the end. The longer it went on, the more things had already been done, and CYOA just become less of a favoured medium for storytelling. I honestly think it would have been better off making the CYOA format entirely optional and allowing anons to just write the story they want, but at that point it would have been no different from fanfiction.net or ao3. I know it was possible to do that, but it was rare that it happened, and I think making it clearer might have helped keep people around.

Because there are still novel threads that come up several times a week. I consider /jp/ less engaging than 2013-2016, but honestly that's probably just me not picking up newer series and fads, and I think that's the case for others.

>What is so fun about a board with 50+ hidden threads?

When did it become so incredibly frustrating to simply have threads you dislike strongly exist on the same board as you?

How in the hell did you browse /jp/ when guro spam dumps, obnoxious tripfag wars, and niggy posting?
I really think it's just that people either lose tolerance to shitposting, and have nostalgia for times when it was novel and where, especially for younger folks, actually engaging.

You don't think the thousands of thousands of posts in that hololive thread contain people that actually enjoy it for what it is, because they haven't lost the ability to take it easy?

> They're more /v/ than /jp/ since at the end of the day they're just streamers who play games
They stream games so they must be more /v/ than /jp/? That's not a very strong argument, especially when you consider that not all vtubers make gameplay the main part of their entertainment. Some don't even play games at all. Watching people like Mito is clearly otaku culture, no matter how you cut it. This becomes more evident when you consider the overlap of just how many vtuber viewers are actual otaku.

> you have to stick around for a long time to get to the good bits of the stream

>That's not a very strong argument
It's not really so much as an argument as it's just an opinion. I don't particularly hate vtubers myself but I can see why some might not find it to their taste, just like the other anon said, it's got e-celeb culture in it.
I don't think people anons here should automatically compare it to western e-celeb shit (which truly is rancid shit), compared to them vtubers are actually hardcore gamers (from what I've seen), but you can't avoid the existing reputation for streamers.
That being said, I'm kinda worried about the explosive growth vtubers got. As with all things, if something gets popular quick, idiots will follow and with it soulless copycats will too, and they'll inevitably take over. When that happens, all the hate for vtubers will definitely be justified and /jp/ will have to deal with the anal sewage when that happens. I'd like to assume that that's some part of the reason why some people here are adamant against vtubers on this board.

Already happened. That's what the Hololive thread is. It's not Reimu in Smash levels of bad but it's probably the closest /jp/ will ever see to that nuclear wasteland in this world-line. Hopefully, anyways. But otherwise I pretty much entirely agree with you, the Virtual Youtuber thread was just another general on the board to me for a long time and the few times I've lurked it, it wasn't the cancer I expected from what just streamers but just a relatively normal thread. Another anon mentioned it in a recent thread that it's the "current zeitgeist of otaku culture" now which sounds pretentious as fuck but considering how it basically overtook niconico for a year or two and how even COOL&CREATE and IOSYS and probably plenty of others are getting in on it I can't exactly argue against that idea either.

>I doubt that idol and vtuber faggots even care what board they are on
As far as hololive goes, most posters would much rather be on /v/ than /jp/, and much rather be on /jp/ than /trash/. Because they primarily browse /v/, don't want to post on a red board, and being on /trash/ puts you next to some boards many people can hardly tolerate even seeing. Simple as that.

That doesn't mean that it couldn't be moved, but almost everyone on 4chan goes to particular boards for particular reasons, and really don't appreciate having the boat rocked beneath them.

It's strange how time passes so slowly and yet so quickly. It's only been a bit over a decade and yet it feels like a lifetime.

Why do people always say "move on"? That implies that liking otaku media is a bad thing.

>> No.25024764

>>25021303
Mainly that most people - regardless of whether they're "normie" or not - tend to get incomplete fulfillment from consumption and interaction with otaku media alone.

And it especially stings the first time the world shifts under your feet, and the $THINGYOULIKE has been relegating from something of contemporary popularity to something of increasingly historical value. Think of those who were really into Sailor Moon, or EVA, or doujin series which predated Touhou.

All those things you listed are still integral parts of otaku culture and get remakes and stuff. Doujin soft before Touhou was like what, VNs like Tsukihime? Touhou was probably in the main part of doujin games becoming popular. As for series that aren't games, no idea about even modern ones. Honestly the problem is with all this quickly disposable shit anime of the late 2000s on. It shifts because you cling to some meme like Lucky Star or Madoka or Kemono Friends, and suddenly it's over and gone for good with the next hot thing replacing it.

Maybe relative to their own popularity peaks, but two of those franchises are still getting official content. I think twitter is really amplifying the popularity waves now.

I didn't meant that. But you can't deny a HUGE portion of the old Japanese Touhou fanbase has moved on to the g*cha and vt*ber bandwagons.

I like botes but I certainly haven't "moved on" from touhou
I still play it regularly even after all these years

Not the anon you responded too.
I don't know about Gacha. But Vtubers feels like it attracts a much younger type of audiance, those who we're not old enough to really experience the height of niconico and really popular fandoms at the time like vocaloid and touhou. I really doubt any long standing 2hu fans would really migrate to that sort of thing (i haven't seen any big indication of that). The time gap is simply too big.

That demographic you're imagining doesn't have money to give to vtubers.

Perhaps. But Isn't it the that amount of viewers that brings in the money, even if lots of them are teenagers and early 20ers ?

This logic kind of falls apart because it's only hard to get in on the ground floor if you started on the tenth floor, for lack of a better analogy. Touhou's a series that has decades to its history, explosively growing in the 2000s due to countless factors, but nowadays? You can't really "get into" it. Meanwhile Gacha-games are mostly self contained, and if we're talking about something like Fate then it's a breeding ground for secondaries for reasons I really can't explain beyond creative bankruptcy and skimpy outfits, but apparently between that and the anime you can experience "the whole Fateverse" with a fine print of "that is popular anyways because the rest doesn't matter and Nasu only made F/SN lol" for some fucking reason. And with vtubers it seems like every other person is relatively isolated so you can just find one or two and stick with them. None of this really has a too-old or too-young requirement since, just like many other self-contained things, you can just "get into it". Though admittedly it's a unique thing because most of them are real people and not written characters, so what you see is always going to be what you get. No MariAli kinda stuff, unless people are still doing that with real people which is weird but I digress.

And this is purely talking about fans, not the type of people who actually draw or something creative. I'm not really explaining this as well as I could be so apologies if this is confusing.

Maybe in general, but I think it depends on the vtuber. I've noticed that mito and utako seem to have a good amount of older viewers, and they often make references or content related to niconico / old 2ch culture etc.
