i have a question

when playing a visual novel game, do you guys try all the choices using the save&load method?

i was wondering if it'll be better if i chose options that i want that will lead to "my" ending.

pros and cons?

Play it through the first time going after the heroine you want.

Later you can go for all of them.

Save before a choice, only reload if it results in game over. Pick whatever the hell you want the first time.

pros: you get the self-satisfaction of not using a walkthrough.

cons: you get a hell of a lot of save files and you'll probably get too confused to ever finish the game.

I actually never go back after making a choice unless I reach a bad end. If I'm looking for completion then I would go back to choices after I'm done with the main play throughs.

For a standard multi-path AVG style game, I pick which girl(s) and I want to do first, and then use a walk-through. You can find them usually by searching for the Japanese title and the word "kouryaku" in google. For english-translated games you can usually get the walkthrough from hongfire.

oh i see, so i should choose whatever i want when playing for the first time, then after the game is finished i do the rest?

Oh wow. Do you really need someone to hold your hand for this? Just pick whatever you want. Just remember that options are available so you can make them. If you just go pure walkthrough, they might as well not exist. Save allows for easy backtracking and curiosity fulfillment.

Depends. If it has good bad ends (e.g. Fate) use the walkthrough to aim for those. They're worth seeing.

If the bad ends are just generic "wrong choice, you lose" (e.g. YMK) then use a walkthrough (if you even need it) to avoid bad choices.

There was a time when I made the choices as I would if faced with them in real life, since acting nice to the girl you wanted was pretty much a safe way to get her ending.

Then games started throwing more and more bullshit options and it became impossible to predict the outcome without a walkthrough.

Self-preservation gets you killed most of the time.

Before I started using walkthroughs, I would make my choices as I do in real life, and be nice to all the girls.

Then, as in real life, I would get bad ends.
