I always found Thief I and Thief II to be two of the most atmospheric games ever made. Its a hard thing to actually _create_ ambience like some games manage to do.

You were a god with that camera. There was no reason to fear any ghost with that thing in your hands. Thus, Fatal Frame was never scary. It was sorta entertaining at times, but never scary.

Silent Hill 1 is still the best. /jp/ agreed don't bother us about it.

The part that scared me the most in Fatal Frame was when you ran down a hallway and there was a mirror at the end and I thought that my reflection was a ghost. I didn't think I could tap the camera button that quickly.

Silent Hill 1 was great, part of its charm for me was that Harry was a terrible fighter. In the new games you can just beat everything down fearlessly which makes it far less scary.
